That would be the Max Raids, not Dynamax itself. But yeah, tedious.

The game itself looks great, though.

Yeah the game looks lovely, they made the raid battles look really slow though but they were explaining all the mechanics behind them.

I was expecting them to say how many Pokémon there was in the regional Poké dex when they were mentioning it but alas they didn’t.

Uhhhhh....
So....Sword and Shield won't actually contain all the Pokemon in the series...? What?

That's a good thing to my mind. Pokémon has become bulky and bloated and ideally needs some permanently streamlining. Honestly, who would miss Dunsparce if they got rid of it? How many of you could actually draw Dunsparce from memory? Given that permanent streamlining's not going to happen, streamlining on a game-by-game basis is the next best thing.

Is this surprising? It doesn't surprise me

They can’t be far off a 1000 Pokemon now.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable really.

With Pokémon Home surely they could have a section dedicated to the national dex on there? So over the next few games you could constantly top up the national dex on there while the regional dex in the next few games has a lower amount of Pokémon which doesn’t feel anywhere near as overwhelming as having a national dex of probably nearing 900 + by now.

150 (151) Pokemon is just right imo. The only time I've ever caught them all.

I'd say 200. I remember when they had 151 Pokémon in DP and it felt too constrained. BW managed it a bit better, but I reckon 200 gives just that little bit of breathing room to allow flexing of creative muscles.

Here's the Treehouse segment for those who missed it.

It's regional only?? Wait what about my Bisharp, Doublade and Zacian dream team, oh no.

I'm exaggerating but it's kinda disappointing >,> If this is the sacrifice they had to make in order have the game more expressive and alive, I don't mind.

Have they said in another segment how many is in the Galar regional dex? For all we know it might be roughly half the national dex so you’ll still see a lot of your favourite Pokémon, well most likely unless in this scenario all of your favourites come from the omitted half of the national dex

It also wouldn’t surprise me if they just add to it over the next few generations (or if we’re back to a full dex by the time the next gen of Pokémon is announced) and this is just because its the first new gen on the Switch.

I like Dunsparce and absolutely can draw it from memory. Here it is.

To answer your inevitable question, I like it because it's based on the legend of the tsuchinoko.

Yeah I could draw Dunsparce. I'm a fan of the series but I can basically picture most of them in my head, and generally retain info regarding their typings too.

I don't think it's that outlandish to say that most people who regularly play these games are the same. Kids can get weirdly obsessive about Pokémon too, if they get hooked, so I don't think the number of monsters is really a problem.

What I do like though, is having a limited Pokédex on your first run through the game. I liked Black and White because they restricted you to entirely new monsters so you couldn't just rely on old knowledge.

I imagine this has been done to stop the raids being a walkover when people send over their level 100 event legendaries. I don't really have a problem with that, just I hope that there is some National Dex functionality and a way to keep your collection going. Sun and Moon didn't have a national Dex and instead relegated it to Pokémon Bank.

Pokémon Bank and the 3DS games have quite an easy method of transfering your old monsters and keeping them up to date. It would be bad if they got rid of all that compatibility purely because they want the game to be balanced. I'm fine with only being able to use certain Pokémon but they should allow you to transfer and update your collection.
