I don't know what people expected from a 24 hour live stream, as it clearly wasn't going to be a day of new content or people playing the game. It's a teaser, so I'm not sure why people are avidly watching a static background screen. I'd wager that there'll be a decent reveal at the very end of the 24 hour period, possibly the starters' second form, and that's when I check out of new updates to avoid spoilers.

Maybe they thought that on the occasion like every hour or so, you may see like I dunno a shadow or silhouette pop up in the background briefly. That kind of thing. I personally expect them to show something in the last 10 minutes.

If this is the reason why people are assuming it's a Ponyta in Galar form, then it could just be a new horse Pokemon. Maybe.

Junichi Masuda has confirmed on Twitter it's Galarian Ponyta.

From other shots it kind of looks like a Galarian form of Ponyta, wonder if this might be Shields exclusive opposite Sir Fetched?

I’d guess it’s going to be a fire/fairy type looking at it.

I'm getting quite excited about this now.

I've not touched a Pokemon game since Generation 4. It's partly been deliberate (as Blue, Yellow, Silver, Crystal, Ruby, Emerald, Diamond, Platinum and Heart Gold - in that order - consumed me somewhat and I'd find myself having put endless hours into them and even more looking up strategies online etc..) and partly been because I didn't get a 3DS (though had I not sworn off Pokemon there's a good chance I would have!)

I really would like Nintendo to clarify some more about which Pokemon will appear in the game, though. Not fussed about some being missing, but I want to make sure I buy the correct version and pick the correct starter.

The Fairy type is a new one on me too. There's now three times as many types as there are slots in a team. What kind of tactics / approach have players taken to team constructing in the most recent generations?

I suppose I've fallen foul of the Trading Card Game setup really, where they blended together ''similar" types to create six colours for cards (not counting white = normal). I've always naturally gravitated towards having
1 x water/ ice type
1 x electric type
1 x rock / ground / fighting type
1 x psychic / ghost / dark type
And then probably a fire type and a grass/bug type, for balance, though those two are less essential and so can be substituted for something specific where it adds an extra dimension e.g. a strong normal or dragon type.

Is this still the case for most players or have things moved on?

Depends, are you referring to an in-game team or a competitive one? For an in game team I tend to just decide on which of the new Pokémon I want to use and go from there, I just try to not go heavily in one types favour unless I’m planning a mono type run just so I have a bit of coverage. Just breezing through the game even with a mono type isn’t that hard these days as chances are you can cover the weakness with a more diverse move pool, only time I’ve found a mono type remotely difficult was in Ultra Moon when me and my 3 dragons came up against Ultra Necrozma, I can’t recall what move it was but it wrecked me first time!

So far I’m pretty certain on the following couple,

Grookey
Corviknight

Some maybes are Impidimp, Galarian Ponyta, Sir Fetched, Galarian Zigzagoon. There should still be plenty more new ones to see as well! I’d have thought before it comes out we’ll definitely know all of the exclusive Pokémon and what % of the national dex has actually made the cut.

As for your starter just choose who you like the look of best! My hearts already set on Grookey

I want to try and get all 3 starter Pokemon in my team as soon as possible. I wish they would make the starters catchable in the game but just made them very rare.

Kind of surprised they’ve not done this yet as well, or if they don’t want to make them catchable (albeit very rare) in the wild they could just reward the player a full set of 3 once they’ve beaten the game. I can see the counter argument though, having all 3 starters is relatively easily achievable via trading (although you do need to wait a little bit to get something worth trading for them) and makes the in game battles a relative breeze as they’re generally really good in game Pokémon.

Just a little bit excessive! Like yourself I do like the look of Galarian Ponyta though, might have one on my team if you can get it in Shield.

Have they still not mentioned if we are going to see a return of battle frontier in this yet at all? It would be so cool if they had a massive area with battles and leagues you could participate in post game.

I’d be amazed if it’s got a comprehensive post game, when was the last game with a battle frontier, HGSS? Post games not been bad in ORAS and the gen 7 games, just nothing particularly long lasting, would be ideal if we got a combination of the two.

I'm the opposite on this. I like that you can't get the other two starters, as it makes you think about your decision. That would be erased if you could just get then anyway. In the GB games I went ages without getting the other two, due to my friend with trading cables not living locally.

I probably wouldn't be as find of the Squirrel design had it not been the mainstay of my team for a hundred hours. It's a bit trite but you do get some sort of "bond" with your starter, which is diminished if you have the other two. I'm playing Ultra Moon now and decided to use the two starters I didn't pick in my original copy of Sun. I'm finding that I use Incineroar way more than Dartrix at the moment. The latter just sort of sitting there in my team, often unused.

I do it too. I don't really like being given a Pokemon, the first Pokemon I catch is my real "starter".

I keep it, but don't usually evolve it. Even in late game.
