I do it too. I don't really like being given a Pokemon, the first Pokemon I catch is my real "starter".

I agree! In the game world it is supposed to be unique but knowing that most people have them in their squad somehow puts me off. They feel less unique, or at least, don't reflect my own personal tastes and choices.

I usually stick with them till late game before finalising a team. I think Gen 3 was the only time I stuck with my starter till the end.

So I’m starting to work out my plans for this now that my son has his own Switch. We’ve been game sharing and so if I can get away with one digital copy I will. Does anyone know how this will work with trading and battling? (Perhaps if someone’s done the same with Let’s go)

You can game share and play the same game online (Mario Maker 2) but can’t do local play.

Will I need two copies or will one work?

I don't think they've clarified this officially, so someone more knowledgeable than me might know better, but I'd wager you'd need two copies. For trading and battling you'd need a played save file each, and I doubt Nintendo would allow you to do anything with that save file unless there's a game card in / downloaded copy of the game on the machine you're trying to play the save file from.

Someone said a while back that the later evolutionary stages of the starters had been leaked. Could someone PM me those details?

You can already share the digital copy of a game and play online against/with each other with the same account linked to two Switches (one primary using an account the game wasn’t purchased on, and one secondary using the account the game was purchased on) so I just need to find someone who has a digital copy of Let’s Go and two switches to see if that works...

Though that's the guy who leaked other stuff, not just the starters and their final evolutions. His other stuff has largely been proven correct so it's likely his starter info is true as well. Though it's just a text leak, no pictures and still a little short on real detail.

Thanks Parksey.

I'm still excited by these games and I think I'll get one, but I'm a bit wary of Nintendo's continued radio silence.

We're five and a half weeks away from release and yet so far we've been told about 18 new Pokemon. We know the starters will evolve twice each so that's a total of 24. The lowest number of new Pokemon to be added to a generation is 72 - I'm betting we see fewer than that.

It's fine by me, as I've got three other generations of 'new' 'mon to contend with, but if I'd played the last games I'd be disappointed.

And I want to see what the starters evolve into so I know which one to pick, and I want to know all the 'mon available in each version so I know which one to buy...

Or we could all enjoy the thrill of discovering the new ones, like way back when?

I didn’t realise that we’d had so few monsters spoiled for us this time. That’s great news. :)

Speak for yourself, I’ve never gone in to a Pokemon game without knowing all of them beforehand and I’ve been playing these since the start

I quite like the prospect of having new Pokémon just waiting to be discovered for the first time in game as well, granted doesn’t help with building a team prior to the games release but I’ll take it over having everything thrown at me prior to release.

I’ve done this in the past and (personal view, natch) I just don’t see how it’s anywhere near as exciting as discovering new Pokémon for your team as you go along!

Oh it’s definitely not as exciting as finding new ones in the wild, I’ve only done this for the previous few games as they seemed to show off nearly all the new Pokémon anyway so by the time you’ve seen them all you kind of know who you’ll be going with anyway.

Ah, fair enough! My approach has been to hide away from spoilers as best I can. It has largely proved ineffective. :(

Sadly I just can’t help myself with Pokémon news, even if I tell myself not to look at it or watch the trailer I’ll end up watching it anyway!

I appreciate that it's more enjoyable sometimes to go in blind, but I'd like to have the choice, and to make an informed purchase where there are going to be version exclusives. My other concern is that there hasn't been much announced because there isn't any more content to announce...

Do you have people to trade with? I guess that’s part of the reason I’m less fussed, because The Lady is getting the other version. Re. the starter I genuinely think that’s part of the thrill, seeing what they’ll change into, and that you’re depriving yourself if you look it up. If you’re worried go for the one with least physical attack, smallest likelihood of turning into Incineroar.

The second worry is genuine, mind. I was very disappointed when XY launched with half a dozen new Pokémon.

The final point is that unfortunately there’s very rarely a choice. Official reveals are sprayed all over gaming social media in a matter of days, unspoiled because they’re ‘official’. Sadly it’s a bit ‘me or you’ in this one Dan, and I’d rather it were me. Sun & Moon was very much you.

To be honest only the starter Pokémon and the version exclusive Pokémon are probably the only ones they actually need to show off, just so people don’t complain down the line you can’t get one Pokémon in one copy of the game, shouldn’t be an issue for me as I know a fair few people who are getting Sword, I’m the only one getting Shield so far but for people who won’t be able to trade locally or globally it could be an issue for them.

I'll be getting Sword. The Legendary in Shield looks strawberry floating shite.

2 of my kids will definitely have this at Christmas 1 of the other kids has also asked for a Switch for Christmas (they told me they don't want a 'crappy' Switch lite and I think he wants it for this and I may end up getting a Switch for my youngest and maybe this, but I don't know.

If things go as they do we'll have 4 or 5 switches with Pokémon and I do believe that when Animal Crossing comes out we'll have 6 switches all with AC.
