I think Crawbrawler is a bit of a weird example to use.

Firstly, you could argue that Krabby is a very uninspiring design, any symbolising the worst trait of the first generation or so, where they basically just copied an existing animal a little too closely. I mean, what defining characteristics does Krabby have apart from being...a crab?

I think Crawbrawler is fine as a design. It's animalistic and could fit well in a fantasy world where these things are meant to be living creatures. It's design fits it's typing and it's exaggerated features that it's overall theme (a fighting crab) mesh quite naturally into its design. It's not wearing boxing gloves, it just has big pugilistic- style claws similar to a coconut crab, to mimic a boxer's gloves. It's shape and it's "quif" ape that of a sort of hermit crab whose name escapes me a the moment.

I think as far as overall design aim goes - a fighting crab - it does the job pretty well and unobtrusively.

I hated Samurott when my little Oshawott first evolved into it and I still hate it now, at least my stand hasn’t changed though.

To me, Crabrawler looks "blobby", like a plastic toy. It's okay, at least it's an animal. Its evolution, Crabominable, is a pretty good design. It has a better colour scheme and the fur gives it some texture.

I love Krabby, it has a big, expressive face and emphasised claws, which is perfect for a Pokemon that is essentially just a crab. Maybe I would have made Kingler's crown golden to emphasise that's what it's supposed to be.

I think the crabs are a fine example to use as they're pretty representative of the difference between "basic and simplistic" to "overdesigned" as it goes on.

I much prefer the ones that are basically just animals. Not everything needs a rainbow colour scheme or spikes coming out of its chest for no reason.

Still though, there’s only so many times you can do a basic animal design before you need to give it some different features or a colour scheme. They generally fare a lot better at this than the more abstract object based Pokémon though, there’s some shockers in that section. Likewise with some of the legendary Pokémon, I think some of those are laughably poor designs as well.

I’ve been Grookey gang from day 1 so not changing anyway. Sound like Grookey’s evolution is the least bad of the lot of the three then?

Some of the stuff being leaked now looks great. Going to be very tough to choose my team. Also, Mr Mime's regional form and it's new evolution. :dread:

I’m seriously starting to doubt that I’ll get through till launch without having a good chunk of the Pokémon spoilt/leaked to me unless I go completely off of sites except here.

I maintain that the design of the first batch of leaked new mon, including starter evos, was disappointing. But I definitely agree that the subsequent leaks have been more appealing.

I feel like this tweet is pertinent to the recent leaks.
