They've already announced that you can get it from the Poke Ball Plus.

Even though there are a load of Pokemon that aren't catchable in the game, we can't rule out the possibility of being able to transfer these ones over when Pokemon Home is launched. Until somebody actually datamines the game, the full amount available won't be known.

I'm 99% sure this information comes from a datamine. Anything not on the list can't be had in the game, either captured or transferred.

It hasn't been datamined yet. Mew has already been confirmed to be transferable to the game. No new Mythical's have been leaked and there is at least one of them. Datamining would also be reveal if Mr Mime Jr has a Galar form or not as none of the leakers have it in their Pokedex.

easily it seems

I don't have any concrete stats here, but I would imagine that, bar their own "generation" (i.e. Leaf Green, Let's Go Eevee erc.) those three are actually only catchable anyway in about 1/3 of the games. The rest of the time you had to send them over from somewhere else. Ironically, even though it's a legendary, Mewtwo is probably the most common, as it's cropped up quite a few times as a post-game bonus legendary. Old starters generally aren't obtainable in-game.

Anyway, I'm fine with the size of the Pokedex. I'd wager that most games actually have a regional pokdex of around 400-500 (I just loaded up Kalos and that seemed to have around 140 or so in each of its three dexes). That's a decent total of Pokémon to catch. It's enough for variation but it's reduced enough to be achievable for new players or for those who want to catch everything in-game. And let's face it, the people complaining would just have transferred their old monsters over anyway and automatically filled in 80% of the Dex.

1000 monsters isn't actually a number there needed and this was always going to happen eventually as they added more and more. The alternative was probably fewer or no new monsters. Being able to pick six monsters from 400 unique designs for an RPG party is still a fair choice. I hope they've balanced it like they've said and all types/generations are represented and there's a decent range of options.

For people saying their favourites are gone, well, they haven't really. The current trend on internet boards is to say they've been snapped out of existence, Thanos-style. Nah mate, you just can't use your monsters from 2007 in this game, use something else.

Make a new team. That's why we always want new monsters each gen, right? Maybe it's just me, but I always make a team with six new monsters whenever a new generation launches. That's part of the charm. I think the only time I've reused a monster was for my playtthiigh of Ultra Moon, where I had to compromise and use a Raichu as there was a dearth of electric types, though even then it was Alohan Raichu.

I don't see the fascination with not using a new team. Yeah old monsters might be your favourite but they aren't being erased. They still exist, they are still Pokémon and will still appear in the future. The storage app they devise will presumably mean they are safe and future proofed. I saw someone loaning about their favourite Sandslash not making the cut. Sandslash! We have had twenty years of bloody Sandslash. Go fiddle about with your team and experiement with a new ground type. You might find a new favourite. Your EV trained Sandslash from Leaf Green will still be there, just you won't be able to power through and use the same team as 2008 anymore.

The key will be how they deal with this going forward. I hope they don't do DLC and release new monsters, as that would be betray their reasons for the cut. I have a feeling they may do an Ultra Sun/Moon and release a pseudo-sequel with maybe the old monsters changed around. I wouldn't actually mind this, if they were probably sequels like Black and White 2, not things with marginal superfluous differences like Ultra Sun/Moon. I have a feeling they might go down that route though. I hope that whenever the next gen arrives after this that they rotate the older monsters fairly too, and it's not just the same ones that constantly make the cut.

But yeah, as you can tell, the National Dex but really does not bother me one iota. I'm looking forward to seeing these new monsters for the first time in 10 days, figuring out their types and making a new team.

Looking at the new Pokémon I’m very likely to use a full team comprising solely of new/Galar form Pokémon, in fact there’s a lot in there I’d fancy using at some point, except the other starters as Grookey is definitely the best in my opinion. I’m not sure why but even the legendary Pokémon are one I might actually use for a change as they’ve really grown on me from when they were announced.

Have we had any confirmation about HM’s? I really don’t want them to come back, having ride Pokémon in Sun and Moon was great.

Just realised that Zubat and Tentacool haven't made the cut.

:datass:

Gonna make caves and waves so much more bearable.

Also I'm amazed that Goldeen and Seaking are in. I don't know anyone who's ever used them for a team. Ever. Going back all the way to Gen 1.

They're out. They showed it in an earlier trailer where your bike turns into a water bike.

Looking very good! Few things in there will definitely make the competitive scene much more accessible to new players as well.
