Hope if it does turn out to be true they still send review copies out early enough so we can read plenty of impressions of the first few hours at least.
I can't believe how much is going wrong with this holy gooseberry fool. Why withhold review copies because of leaks? How does that make any sense? So they can't confirm the obviously real leaks? Or are they aware how lazy they are as devs and realise maybe they've gone too far this time and know the games aren't gonna get great reviews? They've also cancelled the games' launch event in Japan supposedly due to operational reasons'. The whole thing is so suss.

There is rumours around that the event has been cancelled due to people getting death threats, again no idea if this is true or not and we won’t get a definitive answer on why it’s been cancelled anyway. With a lot of the leaks being removed I dare say they are indeed real, why they now want to try and hide them I don’t know, most of the negativity I’ve seen has been mainly about the lack of national dex rather then anything else in the game. Time will tell how well it reviews, I doubt they’ll be bad at all, might have a minor mention about the lack of national dex but who knows if this is something they’ll re add into the next game with the backlash about it.

Ok death threats makes more sense. Think they've had to do similar with other gaming events which is a shame. I'm actually for them cutting down the dex, but not in this way. I hope someone else directs the next games, Masuda's just running it into the ground.
Getting someone fresh into direct the next game would be good actually, I still enjoy the games but seeing what someone else could do with the franchise would be good.
No issues with the amount of catchable 'mon. I do think it's pretty shoddy for them to have not at least officially revealed which Pokemon are exclusive to which version, and the evolutions of the starters. The former, people would reasonably want to know before buying the game; the latter, people are just going to look up online before they choose anyway. If they'd have done these two things, I doubt interest in any leaks would have been as high as it was.
Leaks can be a positive thing for your marketing if you lean into them a bit. You know, a dribble of information comes out in a leak to get people talking, then there's a new trailer that shows it all off, or whatever. IMO the problem here is that they've tried to hold too much back, and that they've gotten grumpy about it instead of working with it.
I dunno, I was fine with them holding stuff back. I like going in blind and having a sense of discovery when it comes to encountering new monsters.
Did they officially reveal the starter evolutions the past few generations? I think they revealed the second stages but then leakers got to the final ones again.
I read that they resented Sun and Moon being datamined to absolute bits months in advance due to the data being in the demo (I'm guessing this might also be their fault for making that possible from a demo).
I also read that withholding review copies wasn't to stop bad press about the game or negative reviews, as big sites are still getting theirs. It was the smaller, indie places who haven't got them, as apparently the leaker this time was one of them, so it could be seen as them "punishing" those who leak stuff.
It's been a bit of a mess, but I think you're always going to get people wanting to see everything and leak it. I was fine with Gamefreak keeping a lot of the new monsters secret, as they have actually revealed a decent chunk of information about the game itself.
One thing they should have tried to do was get Pokémon Home ready for launch, or at least some concrete details about what it does. I'm fine with Dexit (400 Pokémon is a decent number and not running in to the same Pokémon in the same caves and forests will be a change) but people could have been calmed if they knew how exactly their stacks of old Pokémon were going to be future proofed. I have no doubt that the old monsters that have been caught will be able to be brought forward, if not in these games than the next ones, but they should have said something or shown something to that effect.
To be honest, Pokemon has been trading on good will for a long time. I can’t think of a franchise that has come on this little since 1996. The dam wasn’t gonna break at some point, and I think S/S was just the last straw. There’s a lot of long boiling frustration coming out now.
EDIT; As Parksey said, not having Pokemon home ready ahead of launch is a strawberry floating criminal mis-step.

i dont think thats true, pokemon has always had a large fan base and plenty of loyal fans, it seems more like a case of one bad decision and everyone judging everything else with that in mind
Loyal fans is one thing the series does has. Currently trending on Twitter is #ThankYouGameFreak, which I thought would be full of negativity and loaded cynicsm as fans use it as a snarky remark to become what r/Pokemon has fallen into. Instead, there's a load of positive comments and memories being shared of the series, and giving Game Freak some positivity among all the doomsayers in recent times.

Also with Pokémon go having the success it has had, people seem quite happy getting their Pokémon fix from that.
Hearing some concerning things coming out of an early stream of this. I think the most jarring is that catching Pokémon is limited to what badges you have.
Even without the pokedex shenanigans, there are some baffling choices made here.

On the surface that does sound very odd indeed but could it be just business as normal? In every other game you don’t have access to the full regional dex from the off but slowly gain access to more as you progress the story and ultimately gain more gym badges. It’s going to look and feel ridiculous if you find a Pokémon in the wild, go to catch it only to be told you need another gym badge

Except that screwed up as well from what I've seen around. After all, where's the challenge if you have to go out of your way to make things harder for yourself because even though you've barely fought any battles your team is still about five levels above that of your rival? Just what I've seen around, since I haven't been watching any of the gameplay for myself. But if you're someone like me who likes to spend a bit of time exploring before heading on, that's... I'll take six level 100's before the first Gym, please.

Version differences and starter evolutions are the only two things I need to know before starting a pokemon game. Version differences so I can choose which version I want (obviously?), and starter evolutions so I can make an informed choice at the start of the game (again, pretty obvious?).
