As we celebrate 20 years since the launch of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green in Japan, the next era of Pokémon games is being announced! Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon are coming out for systems in the Nintendo 3DS family in holiday 2016, with a new world, new Pokémon, and new adventures to discover! Watch the first teaser for Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon at the top of the page.

Using Pokémon Bank, you'll be able to transfer Pokémon you've caught in the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console versions of Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow into your copy of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon. Pokémon from Pokémon Omega Ruby, Pokémon Alpha Sapphire, Pokémon X, and Pokémon Y can also be brought into Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon in the same way.

Visit the Pokémon Bank page for important details on the planned update to support Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon.

Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon will be the first games in the Pokémon series to allow players to choose from nine languages to play in. In addition to English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish, players will now be able to play in both Traditional and Simplified Chinese.

Much more information is on the way about Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon. Keep checking Pokemon.com for the latest details!

I havent played a Pokemon game since Ruby and Sapphire, this might be the one to get me back in, hopefully theyll share some proper details in the Direct today. Probably too much to hope for but cross platform on Wii U and 3DS would be a very interesting move for it.

Edit: This has to have Amiibo support right? Every Pokemon as an Amiibo, Nintendo laughs all the way to the bank.

Given that the Sun is a star, you probably want Pokêmon Galaxy.

But the Sun is only one Star! I need multiple, then we can have this guy as the boxart legendary:

I'm currently writing a feature about what we want to see from the games, but we're holding out on publishing until after the announcement in case they announce anything on our list. I want to share the first entry now though, because it makes perfect sense and I want to be able to say I called it if such a feature is included.

Bring back Pokémon Snap

In 1999 Nintendo published Pokémon Snap, a unique, on-rails N64 game that tasked players with taking pictures of Pokémon. Players would use items to lure out Pokémon and judged on the quality of their pics. It’s baffling that there hasn’t been a sequel, especially on Nintendo’s current Wii U and 3DS consoles – which seem custom built to support such a game.

If a full game isn’t going to happen, it would perfect sense to include a Snap-like mode in a future mainline Pokémon game, particularly given the fully-3D models introduced in X and Y. With today’s picture-obsessed social media culture Nintendo could easily allow players to share their photos online as well.

Sounds like some kind of currency in a free-to-play game.

I'm not that interested in a new Pokemon game, but a new Pokemon Snap I would be /all over/

For the third game, how about Pokemon Pluto?

As we'll probably spend the next year or two debating to what degree it actually exists.

Hopefully they will make both Legendaries catchable in the game, but have one at a lower level than the other like in Gold and Silver. It would also be nice to travel back to the Kalos region from X and Y once you have beaten the Elite Four.

The lack of a Pokemon Snap for Wii U bewilders me. Unless they had made my Pikmin Snap game instead but seeing as that didn't happen. WTF Nintendo!?

There's now an official Pokemon UK Twitter https://twitter.com/PokemonNewsUK?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I'm guessing it's official since the verified worldwide account retweeted it.

I think the 3rd game concept might be dead, which is probably a good thing.

Well that Direct was a bit of a waste of time.

Pointless :slol:

Not even a single bit of footage of the new games, the leak made this direct redundant
