Tried twice for a perfect Mimikyu but strawberry floated up my chain at 12 and 18 respectively. I don't know how people stay so focused on this!

Beat the Elite four and the final boss. My team was this.

Varying between Lv55/60. Had no trouble with the last battles, although the Clefable Lillie's ma uses was a bit of a banana split.

I'm gonna give it a break until I can trade my ORAS pokemon to this version. Good game. Didn't really like the plot, but hey, it's pokemon. Really loved this region. It felt like more of a real place.

Caught a Shiny Carbink yesterday, just a shame its a boring Pokemon.

I think I have my final team all planned out:

Incineroar
Vikavolt
Crabominable
Gengar
Golisopod
Espeon

(with Toucannon and some others on the fringes)

I think it covers a majority of typings and is a good mix of attackers and special attackers. But would like there to be more Alolan Special Attackers, but Gengar and Espeon will have to do.

Anybody want to battle me? I've built my first competitive team. Lots easier in this game than ever before.

I've beaten the Elite 4 for the first time around and also 'Ash' near the Battle Tree. My team was:

Alola Raichu
Solgaleo
Alola Persian
Golisopod
Alola Marowak
Ash-Greninja

Story wise I'd rate this as probably the worst Pokémon RPG in the entire series. It's just far too short, there doesn't seem to be a great deal of post game content and I personally am not that keen on the region at all, zipping between 4 really small islands. Replacing Gyms with Trials was also a step back and while I liked a number of the new critters and the addition of Z crystal moves - the story and the region where both a let down. This game seems very short when compared to most other entries in the series. As far as EV training and breeding goes, I think it was done better in ORAS, ORAS has a better egg hatching strip, I much prefer hoard battles to the frankly annoying SOS battle system and in a big design fault there is practically nowhere decent to EV train special attack in Pokémon Sun xD You REALLY need the power band/ankle type items to be able to train effectively in this game.

What has happened to this? Sold out practically everywhere. Game scalping big time looking for £50 for it. Nightmare. I'm tempted to go digital, but would rather not.

Christmas happened. This has been the most successful Pokémon game in UK history. Thanks, Niantic.

Marketing push makes Pokemon even more valuable for some reason.

My sister who hasnt played Pokemon since Gold/Silver bought this, and then got X, White and HeartGold - and her boyf got the opposites.

Pokeyman doing work for Nintendo.

I agree the islands seem very small even though they are larger I guess - maybe its cause theyre more split up into sections and having to backtrack through places youve been is done seldomly as they are one-off places for Trials usually.

I hope they make sequels to this - they don't need to rush into a new generation anytime soon when theres so much to work with and we havent had a Pinball spin off since Gen 3 and that sucks.

I think this is the best realised Pokémon area. It feels a lot more alive than what was present in the previous titles, and the areas have a good sense of scale.

I'll definitely be returning to the game when Pokémon box is updated.

How the strawberry float do you beat this Lurantis banana split on the 4th trial? :| It keeps healing itself, it's ridiculous. I have no moves that take more damage than it can regenerate back every turn. I thought the whole game was a breeze until this point but I've hit a brick wall here.

Think I disagree with almost everything said here, coming from a completely different angle. This is the first pokemon game I've played since Silver (I had platinum and played it for an hour before giving up as it completely failed to grab me) and I have loved it. It feels so fresh, in large part due to the island and non-gym structure, and at 35 hours till the elite four (currently at 40 in post game) it felt like the perfect length - I'm just starting to lose momentum now I've hit the post game, so I'm hopeful there will be just enough extra content for me to finish and feel done.

As for the bolded, I'm not sure you can call something that only impacts EV training a big design fault, when the entire concept of EV training is something the vast majority of players will never even touch.

I had this problem, but I just kept going until it ran out of PP

To be honest Poke Pelago is fine for EV training. You can do up to 18 Pokemon at a time, just stick them in before you go to bed and there you go. You can also SOS chain for EVs, it is fiddlier than horde battles but not by that much.

My biggest complaint about Sun/Moon is that IVs are still a thing. I'm fine with EVs and I can just about deal with natures but I've always hated IVs. Breeding for even a 5IV Pokemon with the correct nature & dump stat is just so boring that I've never actually successfully completed the process.

I managed to do it eventually, yet I have no idea how. Lurantis just didn't bother healing. It's not that he ran out, he only used it 2 or 3 times, then stopped. strawberry float that dumb trial.

Is there any disadvantage to evolving Vulpix with the ice stone at around level 30 over waiting? I seem to recall something in the older games where the longer you held something back from evolving the better its stats grew??

Vulpix is one of the Pokemon that stops learning moves altogether if you evolve it. There are some decent moves that Vulpix learns between levels 30-50 (particularly Ice Beam and Blizzard) so you might want to hang on for them, though to be fair you could also just use TMs.

In general, evolved Pokemon have much better stats, but level up more slowly and learn moves at higher levels (or sometimes not at all).
