Same here, I don't do the whole social media thing and am therefore a bit out of the loop with who these online celebs are and what they stand for.

The social media platforms need to get their gooseberry fool together and start getting tough on the alt-right shitheads who post hateful content.

The stream of the massacre is still up on youtube apparently. coming on 9 hours after they said they were working to take it down.

If the terrorist had walked past somewhere playing pop music then the video would have been gone within 3 minutes.

I did like their use of 'working on', like they were trying to seek the banana split's permission to take it down or something.

What the gooseberry fool? Why would anyone in their right mind ever want to watch that?

:dread:

Most of the 'personalities' i've seen on there are utterly dreadful, they're often loud, obnoxious, and just spend their time talking endlessly about very little.

I've not sought out the video - and have no intention of doing so - but I'm assuming that the challenge is around people re-uploading it to different accounts rather than the original upload remaining in place?

I imagine that the only way to effectively monitor the social media platforms is for all uploads to be viewed and assessed ahead of being made available? I wonder if this would be feasible? I can't really think of an alternative approach - things like copyrighted sound and images can be identified via technological comparisons, but I don't think the tech is in place to check other "original" examples of imagery and speech.

I just watch Project Binky, Diresta and Digital Foundry. How anyone can like stuff like PDP baffles me.

You'd think Google would have a bot where you just input the source video and it scans all new uploads for any matches at any point of the video.

I think I would agree with the social media platforms that reviewing everything before it is available to the public would be a horrendous task.

A simpler method would be to automatically suspend any video/posts that get a certain number of reports. Let’s say something gets 100 complaints/reports, Facebook then automatically suspends it and then one of their staff reviews it.

Such a system is obviously open to abuse from a coordinated hate campaign against somebody, but it would only be a temporary suspension of the video and Facebook (or whoever) could then ban the accounts of anybody that is sending in false reports.

1 - Some good points (I was hoping for some actual clips of PDP tho)

2 - This bomber dude is very hard to listen to, he'd be better off not coming across like a complete twat, he undermines his good points with pointless personal attacks that have nothing to do with anything.

I'll continue.

EDIT: he was meming...

Well that was short...which was based on the jew joke he used several times. Can't say I'm convinced yet, ill research more over the weekend.

It wasn't that long ago that Pewdiepie called someone a n**ger in a game on Twitch.

How many actual people do Facebook and Twitter employ? You'd need armies of thousands upon thousands of people to keep up with the upload and post rate, it's probably impossible.

Personally I'd just switch them all off and be done with it.

This is near essential reading, albeit pretty strawberry floating grim:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/25/1822 ... ns-arizona

The video depicts a man being murdered. Someone is stabbing him, dozens of times, while he screams and begs for his life. Chloe’s job is to tell the room whether this post should be removed. She knows that section 13 of the Facebook community standards prohibits videos that depict the murder of one or more people. When Chloe explains this to the class, she hears her voice shaking.

Returning to her seat, Chloe feels an overpowering urge to sob. Another trainee has gone up to review the next post, but Chloe cannot concentrate. She leaves the room, and begins to cry so hard that she has trouble breathing.

No one tries to comfort her. This is the job she was hired to do. And for the 1,000 people like Chloe moderating content for Facebook at the Phoenix site, and for 15,000 content reviewers around the world, today is just another day at the office.

It's reading reports like that, and getting an understanding of the sheer volume of vile material uploaded, which makes me thing we need to turn off the whole dang internet.

That Pewdiepie thing is what UKIP were tweeting out a few days ago, isn't it?

Yup. I tried to find the tweet they sent a few days back saying "PATRIOTS SUB TO PEWDIEPIE" but I couldn't find it.

I have not seen this video, and I'm perfectly glad to miss it. Sick strawberry floats.
