The US tax citizens not residency (as well as non-US citizen residents), maybe we should as well. If you want to move to Monaco fine, but you're giving up your passport.

I see where you're coming from but it's kind of shitty on people who move countries to be with a love one and end up having to pay double tax.

STRAIGHT TO 'CADE!! moment

Didn't know where to put this (Politics or PS4?! Decisions, decisions...)

I overheard something very strange on the train this morning; there was someone on their mobile just behind me who said 'nah, they've got some Tory minge from Westminster doing PlayStation access...yeah...yeah...Boris', background noise got in the way and the conversation moved on.

Presumably Boris isn't unveiling the PS5, so who has Sony signed up here then, I'm intrigued.

Maybe May's going to dance off the Tory stage and onto the Sony one. She's quite on brand.

There's probably a great exclusive here about another Boris conquest and I'm we're missing out on thousands.

Sky News has a long feature up about the trolling and abuse targeted at Meghan Markle on social media:

The Duchess of Sussex's life so far could be described as a fairytale - last year she wed her prince at Windsor Castle.

But every fairytale has its antagonists, and the trolls in this story don't hide under bridges - they lurk behind computer screens, posting abusive messages and sharing dark conspiracy theories.

Research commissioned by Sky News has found that Meghan is the subject of frequent conspiracy-led and racist attacks on social media sites.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram - as well as platforms 4ch*n, 8ch*n and Gab - host multiple accounts which are dedicated to sharing abusive theories about Meghan, including speculation her pregnancy is faked.

The analysis by Storyful found thousands of followers were viewing the content shared daily, with much of the abuse coming from a community of social media accounts which are self-proclaimed fans of the Royal Family.

It also reveals how accounts frequently use the same hashtags to share their criticism of Meghan.

Wow, detailed analysis there - I hope Sky News paid lots for this research! :fp:

Number of reasons in no particular order:

1 - not white
2 - not from UK
3 - more attractive :datass:
4 - Harry is everyone's favourite royal (apparently) and she's got him
5 - has lots of US celebrity baggage
6 - Suits went rubbish after season 3
7 - commoner
8 - surname confuses people and they think she's the German Chancellor

A lot of the abuse seems to approach things from this weird kind of...like, feminine purity angle as well -- she's had previous relationships including a marriage & divorce; she has had a high-profile and successful career; and she's an outspoken feminist. Kate, by comparison, has a more kind of "traditional princess-y" background and demeanour, even if she is "only" from the upper middle classes as opposed to the aristocracy.

Basically, Meghan is far cooler and dorks online are threatened by that.

It's mostly that she's not white though, for sure.

EDIT: I've actually been fairly interested in the media treatment of them both, though I obviously don't care at all about royalty per se, the reporting surrounding Meghan and Kate is absolutely a very interesting reflection of our society.

I think the reporting has been kind of fair (on the low standard scale of press fairness admittedly), not the online comments though I guess.

She is from a very different culture, family and background to traditional royals, completely ungroomed for that sort of role (Kate was a royal in waiting in many respects and has years of grooming for that role) and I think that's where the press fascination has focused.

In terms of racial aspects of the reporting, I can't say I have seen anything particularly racial other than large embracement from the mainstream press and praise for how she is modernising the Royal family, as much as an institution like that can be modernised.

I know some seedier parts of the internet have been disgustingly racist, but that's not surprising given the nature of the internet.

Chaos on QT this week. Full on Springer. A Brexiteer actor from Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones causing lots of ructions.

“Donald Trump is one of the best President’s they’ve had in 50 years” says audience member.

Where do they get these audience members from? The twat booing at the top of his voice is particularly annoying.

Wow, this old Brexity banana split just said Trump is the last best hope for mankind.
