Footage has emerged of the veteran Sky News journalist Adam Boulton berating colleagues off-air, including the channel’s deputy political editor, Beth Rigby.

The video, which was shot during the Conservative party conference earlier this month and leaked to the Guardian on Tuesday, shows Boulton swearing and shouting at colleagues as he appears to prepare to go live on air to present an item on the MP Boris Johnson.

Speaking to a person not shown in the video, he says: “Yeah, if … if … if Beth comes, put her in there and then she can go away”, adding: “I know, I know”, then rolling his eyes. Boulton, still talking to an unknown person off-camera tells them to “just put the strawberry floating seat in”, indicating the space to his right.

Boulton then asks a person off-camera: “Have you got the grab, yeah?” Becoming more exasperated, he says: “Yeah, well, she’s got to come and strawberry floating sit here if she wants to be on telly.”

He appears to begin delivering comments to the camera, before throwing his hands in the air and asking: “What the strawberry float?” At that point, Boulton loses his temper and, pointing to his right, shouts: “Sit down there, stop strawberry floating around.”

Rigby can be heard in the background saying: “I’m not strawberry floating around, I was told not to come on and then to come on.”

Boulton joined Sky News as political editor when it launched in 1989 and served in that role for 25 years, before becoming its editor at large. The exchange with Rigby took place during an edition of his All Out Politics programme at this month’s Conservative party conference in Birmingham.

A Sky News spokesman said: “Adam was operating in a high-pressure live TV environment. He acknowledges he should not have sworn and apologises to Beth.”

The DUP have insisted that Northern Ireland be treated the same as the rest of the UK and so I am sure they will be supporting this.

MPs have backed a bid that would ramp up pressure on the government to reform abortion and gay marriage laws in Northern Ireland.

Cheers rang out as politicians voted overwhelmingly in favour of a Labour amendment that would force the government to monitor human rights compliance in Northern Ireland over same-sex marriage and terminations, both of which are matters devolved to Stormont.

The bid, led by Stella Creasy and Labour MP Conor McGinn, was approved by 207 votes to 117, as part of an emergency bill to restore stability to the region's public services.

It piles further pressure on Theresa May to act over strict abortion laws in Northern Ireland, and comes only a day after a string of Tory minister broke ranks to back a backbench bill that would legalise terminations in the region.

Northern Ireland has been without a functioning executive since power-sharing collapsed last year, forcing ministers to fast-track legislation through the Commons while politicians at Stormont try to resolve their differences.

The new Northern Ireland bill, which sets out how the country is run without a government, will make it harder for Westminster to stand back from reforming the ban on terminations and same-sex marriage.

Laws created in Westminster are having a direct impact on the lives of people in Northern Ireland, as women who have been raped could face longer prison sentences than their attackers and gay couples do not have the right to equal marriage in 2018, Ms Creasy said.

She told MPs: “This amendment would not create a new law in Northern Ireland but what it would do is recognise that there are thousands of people in Northern Ireland whose lives right now are affected by two key human rights issues.

“They are human rights issues because they are issues on which our courts are currently discussing, ruling and indeed appealing.

“They refer in particular to the right of somebody to be able to marry who they love and the right of women to have bodily autonomy.”

So by avoiding the Irish language, the DUP have ended up with men marrying men.

Well done!

Where do Sinn Fein stand on the issue? My opinion is that if the DUP are so concerned with regulatory alignment with the UK, they have to accept our laws. They can't have it both ways.

Great hearing someone speaking ‘as gaeilge‘ in your parliament. First time in 117 years.

Lord Peter Hain has outed the person with an injunction against The Times using Parliamentary Priv.

Someone intimately involved in the case of a powerful businessman using non-disclosure agreements and substantial payments to conceal the truth about serious and repeated sexual harassment, racist abuse and bullying which is compulsively continuing I feel it’s my duty under parliamentary privilege to name Philip Green as the individual in question given that the media have been subject to an injunction preventing publication of the full details of this story which is clearly in the public interest.
