Absolutely absurd isn’t it.

Everyone votes for X. Lab & Tories: the message is clear, deliver Y!

The most important bellweather election is still to come though. As a politically engaged group it’s not enough for us here to just vote - we should at least make sure as best we can that friends and family will also vote. By talking to them in person as well as using the obvious social media channels.

If we can spend time posting shite here we can help increase the vote turnout.

Surge for pro-remain Greens and Liberal Democrats.

Massive losses for pro-brexit Tories and UKIP.

Losses for ambiguous Labour.

Teresa May: 'people want us to get on and deliver Brexit'

lol u wot m8?

Hilariously the BBC aren't even questioning this bizzaro logic.

But not a massively terrible one either I suppose

Who the strawberry float is still voting for UKIP? :dread:

No idea but this is a pretty strong "Leave" area so I'd imagine that had something to do with it.

I just looked up the results for the Ward where I live and sadly it was Labour & Independent, so neither of the Lib Dem candidates I voted for were elected :(

Last figure I heard was 1138 Tory council seats gone at this point, their worst ever performance.

As an anti-brexit vote I voted for the one party that wasn't Labour or Tory, but they've somehow taken that to mean people want Brexit. Both main parties are useless and completely ignoring the 'will of the people'.

Well that was careless of them. No wonder less people are voting for them.

WTF. :fp:

Tories now only have a slim 21/37 majority here. They lost 6 seats (of the 11 being contested), 5 to Labour, 1 to the Lib Dems.

Greens now almost have the most seats in Brighton and Hove.

I know I shouldn't be shocked, but I can't believe this message is still prevailing!

How on earth can anyone say with a straight face that a huge swing to the party that has been against Brexit from day one shows that people want Brexit to be delivered?!

We've moved on quickly from your basic double-think 'voting is undemocratic' to another level of 'Orwell-for-those-with-learning-disabilities' fantasy.

“Yeah but maybe it’s just a protest vote against the main two parties?”

Just wait until the Brexit Party does well at the Euro elections, that’ll be held up as a clear sign that the public want Brexit (even though the various Remain parties will get far more votes).

It's going to be awful. I predict a major success for the Brexit Party. All we can hope for (and the councillor elections make for optimistic reading) is that Remain/People's Vote supporters are prepared to get off their backsides and vote in numbers.

I reckon the Remain parties will get similar numbers to the Brexit party but those votes will be split amongst several parties.

The media narrative though will be “look, people want Brexit!”

The neoliberal establishment can say anything - literally anything - and the media will repeat it uncritically. Thoughtful journalism isn't optimally profitable. This is free press under capitalism.
