John Hayes, MP for South Holland and the Deepings, and a former minister, asked justice secretary David Gauke to consider the “potential merits” of the death penalty.

“If you look at the Westminster Bridge attacker, he was shot in cold blood after someone had taken a proper decision to stop him.

“If he had survived, I think most of the British public would have been OK if he had received a fair trial and been hanged – most people would deem that appropriate.”

Mr Hayes also suggested that serial killers Fred West and Harold Shipman could have received the death penalty, saying both had killed themselves “almost as if they knew that was the right thing for them to do”.

“Let’s bring back the death penalty so that we can hang terrorists who don’t care if they die and serial killers who’ll kill themselves anyway!”

What a twat.

You’re malignant alright, after all you’re a Northern Tory.

To be fair you have no idea how difficult it is to be a tory Mancunian who is also a nurse. I get a lot of gooseberry fool for it. It’s no wonder I’m grumpy.

You’re a Northern Tory who supports Manchester United.

It’s almost as if you enjoy being despised. ;)

I knew the death penalty would rear it's head with us leaving the EU. It wouldn't surprise me if it found its way into the next Tory manifesto.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Hexx, you would be raging if anyone responded to you in the same kind of tone you use for others. If someone says something that you disagree with, you just respond with childish name-calling.

The death penalty is ridiculous, but there’ll always be a decent sized percentage (if not a majority) of people that’ll support it. It’s not a terrible vote winning tactic to support it knowing it’ll never actually come back.

It’s terrifying just how many people support the death penalty.

In my awareness, Denster is in a stressful and demanding job where he supports people who need a helping hand; it's responsible and honourable work that benefits society.

Just because he also votes Conservative and says that he has little influence over the wider injustices in society doesn't negate that position; it doesn't warrant accusations about his character.

Oh my god...seriously? After he said this:

It’s Jawa. Trying to present himself as morally superior moderating force because he panders to/refuses to condemn offensive right wing views is pretty much his contribution to these threads.

Did you miss when he told everyone off because he thinks Gammon will one day by thought of as bad as N****** or Paki? Because that might be his zenith.

Once again it comes down to binary responses. Not everything is 100% right or 100% wrong. Recognising Denster's other posts, I interpret the full picture as being "I work full time supporting adults with special needs and so I don't realistically have a capability to make much of a dent on homelessness issues; but I am more than happy that my tax payments help by paying for other people to provide support".

Oh do give over, Hexx. You have an obsession that I'm a right-wing extremist and it's quite odd as my posts do not support that view. I'm comfortable for any forum member to read my posts and build a picture of how I conduct myself.

More accurately, my point was that it's wrong - and diminishes the argument - to call anyone a silly name based upon their physical appearance. It appears that you may think it's right to do so in some cases?

Eesh, Denster you do not come off well in these polical sections of the forum which is odd seeing how over the top in your generosity to others on here. I get that you’ve seen more gooseberry fool than most when dealing with people but the fact you’ve become so desensitised, do you ever question yourself on that?

This is why it’s bannnas how apologetic you are in times of austerity when your sector has seen major cuts. I honestly don’t get it.

I never said I had a tough childhood. The things I’ve seen referred solely to working here I work.

God knows how dreadful I’d be if I hadn’t been raised in a loving nurturing fashion.

Oh and Taf - it’s not that I don’t give a gooseberry fool. It just isn’t a problem I can solve so I don’t sweat about it.
I’ll give you an example - I don’t give money to homeless people. I don’t believe it does any good. However, several months ago a former patient approached me and asked me to give him some money. We recognised each other and I asked him why he was homeless. He told me he’d had problems with his supported accommodation and was being bullied. I bought him some food and drink and bus fare then told him to go back there and that I’d speak to his care co ordinator in the morning.
The next day I did so and his problem was addressed and resolved.

I acted because I knew that I could help.
Now I’ve no doubt that many homeless people could cite similar issues and need help but that isn’t my job.

Cuts always come from the public sector. Not happy about that but I just did extra hours and got promoted when they froze the public sector pay.

Which is extremely generous given the context that he's a supporter of a party whose lack of empathy for such things is all but its defining feature. But my point is that some things are. Some things are 100% wrong or 100% right and your refusal to acknowledge this is infuriating.
