Some more sneaky NHS cuts just before Xmas:
https://m.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/go ... 7e90785176

Funny how they were just able to pull £2bn out of thin air for unwanted and unnecessary 'No deal' preparations, but there's no money for vital services.

I can't really say I'm a fan of Frankie Boyle's stand-up, but I thought this - his review of 2018 - was magnificent. Depressing, terrifying, rage-inducing and pretty goddamn funny, too.

Ex-Lib Dem leader Paddy Ashdown dies aged 77

Former Liberal Democrats leader Paddy Ashdown has died aged 77 following a short illness, a party spokesperson has said.

The former MP for Yeovil made an "immeasurable contribution to furthering the cause of liberalism" and would be "desperately missed", a statement said.

Lib Dem leader Vince Cable said it was "a hugely sad day" for the party.

Lord Ashdown was diagnosed with bladder cancer in October.

I wonder what sort of a PM he'd have made... couldn't have been any worse than what we've had since the 80's, could he?

Sad news, while i didn't always agree with his views, he was at least, a respectable politician (something that is pretty rare nowadays).

1 Theresa May dancing on stage at the Conservative Party conference (choreographer Ray Harryhausen), looking like an uncloaked Dementor on a hen weekend.

Sad to see another great Liberal leader go. Only goes to highlight the clusterfuck Clegg made of the great pass he got from Ashdown and Kennedy.

Ashdown was a rare conviction politician despite his flaws.

That pretty much sums up my feelings, we are witnessing a horrific increase in rough sleeping and the government is trying to distract by making people gooseberry fool themselves over a few people in a boat.

And people will fall for it.

Greece takes 10,000 refugees in one day, but 220 in 2 months is a crisis for the UK. Javid has to cut short his holiday to complain to France about their inability to control this "major incident" of 6 Iranians getting to the UK.
This is the same France that received over 100,000 applications for asylum last year.

If only there were some sort of forum where the nations of Europe could discuss such matters...

It’s almost like Javid thinks there might be a leadership contest in the next year....

It's probably to scare Conservative MPs into thinking that voting against May's deal is voting against doing anything to stop all these nasty foreign benefit scroungers(tm) from coming here.

I just saw Vince Cable’s New Years message.

Has there ever been a less inspiring leader of a “major” party?

The Lib Dem’s might be at a very low point thanks to Clegg, but their leadership choices since the end of the coalition have been terrible. A homophobe Liberal leader followed by a boring old man. :fp:

As a member... yeah that's pretty much it. Cable has killed the party stone dead. The pinnacle moment was at Party Conference in 2017 when the leadership decided to force the membership to vote in favour of this insipid 2nd Referendum thing as opposed to actually being the party of Remain and fully embracing the pro-EU spirit that is one of the core values of the Lib Dems. As a result they've been totally sidelined by a man who inexplicably delivers less interesting speeches than Jeremy Corbyn.

The future has never seemed so bleak.

I have to agree at the moment they are completely ineffective, however I will continue to be a proud member while they retain and promote the same principles I hold myself.

Yep last time I checked they were the only party who had policies in line with my own politics.

I used to think that, but then Clegg took a gooseberry fool over everything, Farron hated on the gays and Cable has sent me to sleep.

They’re dead.

Hopefully the Greens pick up some steam and become a powerful third voice.
