With the usual caveat about the unreliability of polls, the London Evening Standard reports that Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership ratings have crashed to their worst level yet as a result of Brexit.

The proportion of the public satisfied with Corbyn’s performance has dropped to 17% per cent — the lowest figure recorded by any Labour leader apart from Michael Foot.
The proportion dissatisfied with the Labour leader has risen to 72%.
Under half of Labour voters (44%) are happy with him.

I follow politics and most of the time I completely forget Cable is the Lib Dem leader. It’s not surprising people don’t vote “dissatisfied” as they are too busy thinking “who the strawberry float is Vince Cable?”.

True, also I guess the threshold for "satisfied" is probably lower for Cable. It's like thinking about your elderly relatives, I'm satisfied if I visit them and they manage to remember my name and nobody soils themselves - I imagine many people hold Cable to similar standards

The new modern snarky Ed as Labour leader would be amazing. Even the “hell yes I am tough enough” Ed would still be better than the May/Corbyn alternative.

The nerves got to Ed a bit, and the bizarre media coverage (not entirely his fault) didn't help either, but I think he would have actually been pretty good. It's a much better timeline than this one at least.

Maybe we'll see the EdStone in New Palace Yard yet.

He was one of the few party leaders that I haven't utterly detested and so he did something right.

Fast forward to the present day, and the public also like Ed Balls prancing around the dancefloor and doing his sporadic documentaries. See also Michael Portillo.

What links all three of them though is how their public personas completely changed the moment they left politics and just started being themselves. US politicians are much better at this while in office than our lot (apart from 'characters' Boris and Mogg).

I don’t think Boris Johnson or Jacob Rees-Mogg are being themselves. They both perform in public and have created characters that they project onto the public. Rees-Mogg’s character is probably a little more like his actual self than Johnson’s is though.
