Has anyone seen the very sinister sounding Jeremy Corbyn commercial currently airing on TV by the Mail on Sunday? They’re serialising “Dangerous Hero: Corbyn’s Ruthless Plot For Power”.

A gripping expose of the man, his politics and what Corbyn in Downing Street could mean for Britain. After four unremarkable decades in politics, Jeremy Corbyn stands on the brink of power.

I don’t understand the point of it, Mail readers wouldn’t vote for Corbyn, Corbyn voters wouldn’t read the Mail. It’s like slagging off Liverpool in a Man U fanzine, you’re only preaching to the converted.

I guess the headlines and media coverage will spread the anti-Corbyn message a little further, but politics is so tribal now that I can’t see it swaying many people either way.

They will just drift back to the middle and not really pay much attention to anything. By keeping up this stuff they keep the more naturally moderate reader from drifting to the centre and becoming a non voter or worst they might see something that comes out in an election that they agree with on the left.

1984 is overused but there are parallels. I’ve especially noticed doublethink creeping in. Instead of “war is peace” we have things like “voting again is anti-democratic”. We have people simultaneously believing that the EU is an all powerful dictatorship, while it’s also possible to walk away with a simple vote.

I think Brave New World is a closer dystopia. The information is there, but people are too entertained to look for any of it. Though people are usually too tired after work to bother with politics.

That story about the elderly Iranian couple facing deportation. Those are actually the grandparents of a friend of mine. It's been a terribly stressful time for the family as you can imagine, and they're fighting it with everything they have. It's a small thing, but they do have a petition up on Change.org that's been doing really well (cleared over 100,000 signatures in less than a week), I'm going to post it here in case anyone wants to also sign it.

Update: The Home Office have caved and are letting them stay indefinitely. Massive thanks to everyone here that signed the petition, nice to get a small glimmer of good news in the UK given the ongoing shitshow that is our government.
