We need to bring back good old fashioned egging. If all these hand-wringing, time-wasting tosspots in government got absolutely pelted with eggs whenever they appeared in public we'd have had the second referendum ages ago. At this point it should be impossible for a Tory to walk down the street without becoming a yolk bukkake.

To be fair he was pretty spot on with that one. He sided with the protesters and said that direct action has a history of working. He also made a mildly funny wank based joke.

there are three kinds of people: people who realise theres a massive crisis in relation to man-made climate change and are doing something about it, people who realise but are too apathetic to do anything, and people who are just as apathetic but also want to engage in what-a-boutery and handwringing to make themselves feel better about it.

I think he managed to climb down off the fence and actually make a good point with this one.

Again, they need the public onside if they want to truly make a difference; blockading Heathrow is not the way to go about it...

The issue with a lot of climate change stuff is that the alternatives currently have to usually do more work to generate the same levels of energy as "standard" fuels...

Until things are efficient enough to really be justifiable to companies as an alternative (such as electric cars or sustainable fuel sources) very little will change... Fortunately some are doing work to ensure this is the case but it's bloody difficult work to do...

Look, they don't actually need the public onside, do they? The public have no power in the sense you mean it - as some nebulous democratic force - to prevent climate change. Even if millions of people cared deeply about climate change, we would be stuck with the relative apathy of the two main parties. The parliamentary system just isn't set up to give us a Green majority in Parliament in the 2022 election. It took 30 years and a World War for Labour to go from a good idea embodied in a social movement to having their first Prime Minister in a minority government, and it took 30 more years and another World War for them to have their first majority. We can't afford to have 30-60 years of upheaval before we do something on climate change. That's the whole point of the protest.

Extinction Rebellion's demands are all aimed at the government directly. I'm not saying it is likely that the government will fold after a few days of - let's be honest - pretty tame disruption. But I suspect plenty of people in government would have at least visited their website now. Maybe if they keep doing these protests, month after month, it'll get more difficult to ignore.

And why should green energy only be implemented when it is so-more-profitable than fossil fuels? Come on man, the planet is more important than some faceless megacorp's profits. The government can force them to be green -- but only if we force the government to do it.

That’s the big point a lot of people are missing. These protests are designed to be a pain in the arse to make politicians listen and act.

If the public are not onside, what are they going to do? Vote a petrol company in as the government? Burn tires in a dirty counter protest?

Politicians for decades have said they are concerned and will act and they’ve done very little. Having David Attenborough talk is great but far easier to pay lip service to than it is to ignore the shutdown of central London or an airport like Heathrow.

Damn kids! If Fred could buy a house for £1,650.00 (equivalent of £37k today) in the 50s, why can’t you manage to buy it for £500,000.00? :x

That comment reads like it was auto generated from an algorithm. Hits certain notes, but as a whole not quite right.
