80% of earnings from a Tory government was surprising, especially after a decade of their "strawberry float the poor" austerity. That made people look warmly at Sunak. It also helped he appears to be competent compared to the other jokers in the cabinet.

Being better than the other turds feels like a low bar for universal adoration to me!

I do get that his star was definitely on the rise 9 months ago though and he got some good press, but it was never going to last as fundamentally he's still a gooseberry fool.

As Tomous said, he's the best turd, but he's still shitty.

His star will probably continue to rise in the Tory party (maybe not amongst the public!) because what else do they have? Raab? Gove? Patel? Rees-Mogg?

You say that but you've probably just listed the next 4 PM's :dread:

I think after the clownshow of Johnson, they'll go for a more sensible option next time. They won't want too much existing baggage. Plus if Brexit is biting, they won't want anybody that was too involved with that.

I think there will definitely be a bit changing of the guard coming. Lots of those who were involved in Brexit or otherwise supporting of it will check out once it's done - through a combination of not wanting anything to do with the fall out and also just seeing it as "job done" and they've got what they want.

edit: I also wonder whether all this stuff about Sunak has been instigated by someone in the Tory party, looking towards a potential leadership bid.

Why would they need to distract from it? They do it brazenly in the open with zero consequence.

Distract in the sense that your average person wouldn't be bothered by it because they paid half price for a Nandos.

It's a shame much of the British public don't pay attention to PMQs

It's also a shame Starmer has abandoned standing up for victims of the hostile environment so long as they're not the nice type of immigrant whose plight plays better in the papers.

Abandoning people to not upset certain others seems to be his overall game plan. Hopefully people still turn out to vote for him.

It isn't, it was just the debate ahead of today's vote.

The media liked furlough because it's a welfare system that middle class people might actually have to use.

My brother's wife got refused a spouse visa today :x

Brings back bad memories of when my girlfriend was wrongfully refused entry to the UK a few years ago. Hope they can fight it like we did.

Seriously, strawberry float this government.

Went off on a bit of a rant earlier too when my Mum said "that's terrible when they're letting all these immigrants in on the boats".

The UK is getting a coronavirus vaccine first because it is a "much better country" than France, Belgium and the US, says the education secretary.

Clearly they have forgotten the format that first is indeed the worst whilst second is the best.
