Yeah, I took it for a play on the old benefits scrounger thing. Which was always a handy way of making people fight amongst themselves and distracting from much worse problems (companies paying strawberry float all tax).

After a spell of treatment at a psychiatric hospital in Friern Barnet he was taken back on by The Sun on condition that he be confined to the office.

When I was quite drunk on Friday night, trying to get over the election results, I half typed a message to my local Labour party saying something like "commiserations on the results, it makes me feel sick" blah blah and my point was going to be about how I want to help out in some way. I don't have the time or inclination to go walking door-to-door, so I was trying to think of how I could maybe take my work experience and suggest things I could do to support them on a voluntary basis.

I deleted it in the end because I thought best not to write this while drunk  but haven't got back round to it.

Does anyone else here have any sort of role within their local party/council etc?

No but I am seriously considering trying to get on the local parish council as a step towards standing for a local council election in a few years. I'm getting tired of feeling angry about stuff and just ending up helpless.

Yeah same here. I want to feel like I'm actually doing something useful towards things rather than just attacking Tories on Facebook/Twitter and achieving absolutely nothing.

Chilling article from Nick Cohen about the rich using Libel laws in the UK to silence journalists.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/may/08/are-our-courts-a-playground-for-bullies-just-ask-catherine-belton

I've immediately bought the book (in paperback and not from Amazon) as a result.

Libel law is in principle a sensible idea to protect individuals from life-ruining harassment, but in practice they absolutely exist to serve the interests of the rich and powerful and as a tool of censorship.

They actually asked me for my polling card when I went to the local elections on Thursday then got rather huffy when I didn't have it.
