Yep.

“Do you think we should stop voter fraud by bringing in voter ID”

Most people would answer yes, but the real question should be “do you want the government to spend millions “fixing” a problem that doesn’t really exist?”

Anyone catch this disgusting article in The Times that's been roundly condemned on left-Twitter recently?

Only just saw this summary, apologies if it's already been posted, and for the memey format (just lifted it from Reddit).

Image

Actual Nazi propaganda in a "respected" news source, laying the same rhetorical foundation that previously resulted in state-sanctioned mass murder of disabled people.

Sky News Breaking News -

Labour MP Louise Ellman (Liverpool Riverside) has announced she is leaving the party because she “can no longer advocate voting Labour when it risks Corbyn becoming PM”

twitter.com/louiseellman/status/1184575029276745730

'12,000' Asda staff currently face sack in bitter contract dispute

Asda has staff who are refusing to sign the new deal serving 12-week notice periods - but they can still change their minds.

Approximately 12,000 Asda workers are currently facing the sack next month for refusing to sign controversial new contracts, a source has told Sky News.

It is understood all staff who fail to sign the agreement by a 2 November deadline will be dismissed unless the supermarket chain backs down.

Workers who have snubbed the contract are currently serving notice periods but can yet change their minds.

Asda said on Wednesday that the "vast majority" of over 100,000 people affected by the new contract had signed on the dotted line.

The retailer was yet to respond to Sky News' request for a comment about the scale of the crisis.

How is that Asda stuff legal? Surely those 12000 staff could just sue for unfair dismissal?

I don’t believe so, if they want to change your terms and conditions at work they can do so by offering a new contract. If you refuse to sign it then they can give you a notice period for dismissal. It’s entirely legal.

I’ve been given a couple of new contracts at work in the last thirteen years, I’ve not signed a single one and no one seems to have noticed  not sure where that actually leaves me though.

My wife’s whole department had a contract offered to them that no one wanted to sign. The hospital ended up locking them out of the building as they effectively refused to work by not agreeing to the new terms and conditions. The hospital then employed agency staff to fill the vacancies.

What's bad about the new ASDA contract?

Skarjo wrote:What's bad about the new ASDA contract?

This is the first I'm reading about it (in KK's post above) but I'm guessing from what was posted that the issue is the length of the notice period.

Three-month notice periods are, AFAIK, generally the reserve of well-paid, demanding, highly-qualified 'key' jobs in certain sectors; where a business or provider's output would suffer significantly if one of their key staff were lost, so a 12 week notice period gives the firm sufficient time to seek a suitably able replacement. Think engineers, consultants at hospitals, medical researchers, critical police staff, solicitors and the judiciary, etc.

Assigning them to supermarket / retail staff as default is unreasonably draconian by employers, because it's akin to locking them into the sector forever. It can't be justifiable, because (absolutely no offence to entry-level Asda staff) the positions do not require significant training or education or qualification and are therefore among the most straightforward of vacancies to fill. Asda absolutely do not need three months every time a staff member quits to find a replacement.

But for the staff member, shifting the required notice period would make it very hard for them to find another job. If we're being completely honest and practical, very few employers with a vacancy they want to fill will wait an entire quarter to fill that vacancy with an entry-level staff member. Said staff member could always just quit completely, and not serve their notice, but then they're likely to not be given a reference for the time they worked there, and their new job offer may be contingent upon this.

It's a really shoddy thing to do.

the new contracts would mean staff lose paid breaks, have to work bank holidays whether they were contracted to them or not, and impose a four-week notice period where the store can change workers’ shifts.

Well it could be worse,

Because the rise of the Nazis is a topic so rarely mentioned these days, least of all in schools, the BBC has produced a helpful three-part explainer of that title (BBC2, Mondays) showing why the story of Hitler is even more relevant today than it was in the 1930s.

Back in the day, the BBC might have been content to strive for an objective take on the subject, perhaps with a voiceover by Samuel West and lots of period footage. But the danger of that approach, the BBC has since realised, is that it runs the risk of viewers making up their own minds what to think. Some of them might not be aware, for example, of the obvious parallels between Hitler, Nigel Farage, Donald Trump, Brexit and, to a lesser extent, Michael Gove.

Enter former Cambridge historian Professor Sir Richard Evans, one of the diverse talking heads who pop up at regular intervals to interpret the story being acted out by young men in brown shirts, Himmler-impersonators, etc. Hitler said he wanted to ‘Make Germany Great Again,’ he explained, and specialised in ‘empty slogans’ which, though vague, were ‘very powerful’. Also, Hitler was a man who ‘represented himself as an ordinary bloke, as it were,’ he told us with
a sneer. Gosh, which contemporary politicians could he possibly have meant?

Actually, we don’t need to guess because Evans keeps telling us via his Remoaner tear-drenched Twitter account and also in articles such as the one he recently wrote for Prospect in which he compared contemporary British politics to those of the Weimar Republic, and attacking both Trump and ‘Johnson and Dominic Cummings and their unelected, hard-right government’ with its plans to ‘force through a disastrous no-deal Brexit without parliamentary approval and against the wishes of the majority of the population’.

Totally agree there. SEN (as it's called in my area) is obscenely underfunded. A friend of ours has a child with SEN, and the local school can only afford SEN education for half the week. The other half of the week, she had to pay for her child to go to back to nursery. It's obscene.

I don't know if this is politics per se but it did make me feel slightly less as if society is ending.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-gl ... gn=bbcnews

A so-called pick-up artist who targeted "young and vulnerable" women has been jailed for two years.

Adnan Ahmed - who called himself Addy A-game - secretly filmed himself approaching dozens of women in Glasgow and Lanarkshire.

Ahmed, 38, was convicted last month of threatening and abusive behaviour towards five women.

He has also been placed on the sex offenders register for 10 years.

Police launched an investigation after his actions were revealed by the BBC's The Social earlier this year.

Five young women, aged between 16 and 21, gave evidence about how they had been alarmed and intimidated by his approaches in Glasgow city centre and Uddingston.

In September he was found guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court of threatening and abusive behaviour.

Someone posted a video of this dude on here I think, and I remember coming away from it absolutely raging. Now he's in jail. lol etc
