Frustrating council by-elections again. Closed last night.

Tories lose two but also gain two (both Labour losses).

Labour lose two, gain one from an independent.

Lib Dems gain two (both of the Tory losses).

One of the Tory wins was by 0.4pp :x. Awkward loss for Labour, whose former candidate left the party and took 39.7% of the vote.

Do you ever wake up in the morning and think to yourself, Boris Johnson is the prime minister of the United kingdom.

STATS:

- Bottom: % of 25-34 year olds who use each social network for news (arrow end = 2021 value)

Interesting that the i, Metro and Daily Star, three websites you'd think would skew younger, have lost readers.

I'm surprised The Observer is so low whilst The Guardian is the top. I thought The Observer was just the The Guardian's name for their Sunday paper.

How do you get news from WhatsApp? Just from friends and family messaging you?

I think younger people are members of a load of groups who send news around.

I don't believe the divide exists- the overwhelming majority of those young people will be reading the Guardian online/in app, and the Observer content is seamlessly integrated into that platform. People clearly just aren't realising they're reading the Observer.

They also appear to have just projected their own bigotry onto other authors they liked, like Neil Gaiman and Margaret Atwood, then got angry when it turned out that wasn't true.
