Yeah that's a good video, we do need more effort to turn dissatisfaction into action

Indeed. Labour need to finally make a stand and push this kind of message hard. I know they are worried about taking a position as they will get slaughtered by the press and Tory supporters but there should be enough who support them on this issue. Just a shame it's taken someone else to do it.

I honestly think labours position is just to remain as quiet as possible on every issue and allow the Tories to push themselves out of power and let labour in quietly through the backdoor.

And to be fair it might be a tactic that works, but it's not exactly inspiring is it!

One of the main speakers in that video is a Labour MP.

1. You're probably still in contract to pay those amounts
2. You might have a tariff that requires direct debit so if you cancel it you will be liable for Standard Variable Tariff from that point onward
3. Energy companies are notorious for using every trick in the book to recover amounts, including excessive debt recovery charges merely for issuing statements.

It could build up pressure but I definitely wouldn't want to create the end situation where you are liable for what could be a massive debt.

Its going to massively punish those who take part in a way that many of them are unlikely to understand. Their motives and message are honourable, but the action that will take place is likely to cause significant harm to those taking part. Hopefully they are able to use the threat of action, and the government acts on that threat of action.

Who am I kidding, this is the tories we're talking about. Those people will stop their direct debits, the government will refuse to take action, and when the energy companies turn round and hit them with fines and rate increases, the government will refuse to step in to help them.

This.

There's pandering to xenophobic arseholes and then there is straight up offending even their meagre intellect. I didn't think it was possible to underestimate Tory party members but Sunak seems to have achieved it.

It's the folded up piece of paper attempting to simulate a placard or bit of foamboard that's key.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

Who are they exactly keeping Brexit Safe from?

There is no real strong movement to reverse it and the key government opposition party have come out to say they will not be going against the 'vote'

Also saying you are going to repel all these laws, shouldn't we be asking what are they repelling exactly and who is going to benefit from this?

They have to keep the gammons who are traditionally anti-Tory on side. So Brexit will always have to be simultaneously done and at risk.

They also have to avoid the gammon realising they've been stitched up. And so there will always be something European to blame. N Ireland protocol, French customs workers, leftover EU red tape etc etc.

The current everything is built on the idea that "they" are attacking you, what you believe in, Brexit, anything really. The point is "they" are trying to destroy "us".

They have to maintain a strong sense of us and then to keep the the sides alive so that it's all about stopping "them" no matter if they make sense, they are "them" and so bad because "they" are the other team.

The grand irony is that the right are constantly attacking the working class and attempting to destroy any ability they could possibly have to live decent and fair lives. But its a lot harder to explain that to people than to claim The Boogie Men or The Shadowy Cabal are behind it.

Genuine question, what do people on here do to combat the utter despair at how this country has been ground into the dirt? Have tried tuning out of all news (appreciate this is just trying to ignore the problem) but that’s becoming increasingly hard. The anger at the utter malicious incompetence and wilful ignorance of our leaders I can cope with, it’s the struggling to feel any hope that things are going to get better any time even in the medium to long term that I don’t know what to do with other than just try and tune it out and distract myself from it.

This isn’t a depression thing in case people were concerned about that. Just interested how people on this place, who are generally more left leaning and politically motivated than me, deal with it?

This is a good question-I've been struggling with this myself. I just find it impossible to properly disengage from it.

I can't ignore the news so I just spend plenty of time doing things I enjoy (gaming, TV shows, miniatures, baking etc) to escape from it all for a while.
