Indeed it is. However those areas are increasingly becoming no go zones for ‘outsiders’.

You sound about 2 posts away from turning to a Fox News style "London's Islamic no go zones!"

Having lived in high knife crime areas, they're not really no go areas for outsiders. The people getting stabbed are mostly kids who live in the area because of gang violence. When I lived in Brixton I use to hear a load of stuff about a running gang war between school kids from Brixton and South Wimbledon.

I live a stones throw away from a road once described as "one of the most dangerous in Britain"

It's improved over the years, but it was never as scary as the headlines would have people believe. Most crime is shoplifting or gangs, ordinary people have little to fear. Muggings and assaults happen of course, but it can happen anywhere. And there are millions of other horrible events that happen to people every day.

I live on Atlantic Road in Brixton, which was the heart of the Brixton riots. It's proper gentrified there now, it use to be full of drug dealers when I lived there but I never felt threatened by anyone living there.

High foot fall, shopping and eatery areas aren't the problem anymore. It's moved to other areas.

I lived on the edge before it became Railton road and use to walk down towards Herne Hill where it was all residential. Most of the shops near my house were shuttered when I lived there, although there's a load of trendy eateries there now. I remember going into Brixton market when it only had a corner shop and one pizza place.

The problem areas do shift around though. Often through investment and neglect of other areas. I'm glad Brixton has improved massively.

At what point have I made reference to race or religion in relation to knife crime? Don't be a Hexx.

You seem to miss the point quite often. I wasn't saying you were being racist or Islamophobic, I was commenting on your "no go zones!" hyperbole.

Is it hyperbole? I don't think so. There are areas in my town that I 100% would not walk down or visit on my own.

I actually think as it was my point, it's you that is missing it.

You being scared of areas of your town doesn't negate my point.

As a regular visitor to the capital, i can say without hesitation that i have never, ever felt threatened in any of the places/areas i've been.

In contrast, it was sleepy Axminster where i came closest to getting the gooseberry fool kicked out of me (also on one occasion there, i was approached by a guy who wanted me to follow him to place i knew did not exist, i refused, but looking back it now seems highly likely the guy was feeling rapey/robby/both).

Yeah, as I’ve said in other threads, beyond the odd idiot thinking they’re being funny I’ve never had any aggro in London, always thoroughly enjoyed myself down there. Would visit again, 10/10

This government is so bad that they make Theresa May look good. :slol:

It's incredible that Boris actually makes her leadership look strong and stable!

Edit: It's like the Trump effect, making Bush seem like an intellectual and oratory genius.

May hasn't been afraid to stick it to the current government. I wish more ex PM's would stick around as MPs.

Whenever I've lived in/visited London I can't say I've ever felt particularly unsafe, even when walking around on my own at night.

If you can't threaten to kill somebody I don't see the point of debate, people just need to except that it a robust argument people are going to constantly threaten to kill each other. Bloody snowflakes.

It really does. Your claim is that there are no go zones. It turns out they are just areas you are personally scared of.

Being afraid of something is not the same as there actually being a serious danger.

What town are we taking about btw?

Very interesting opinion piece on the spectator.

It's very interesting to see the people online backing Kevin Hurley, that'd give me pause before posting anything by him.

Also, The Spectator :dread:

I read the article. It appears to come down to an argument that "black people think the police are racist, the police are not racist, the police react to black people thinking they're racist".

The police are a truly marvellous organisation, according to the police themselves (and countless far right pundits) they have no problem with racism at all. Extraordinary to imagine just how perfect they all must be.
