I watched with my mouth open this morning as Buckland stated he would resign if the law was broken, and I quote, "in a way I find unacceptable". Holy strawberry floating gooseberry fool. So apparently he is now arbiter of what laws apply and which don't. It's like we're living in a tinpot dictatorship.

It's actually quite difficult and changes on what you're counting. English might be first if you are counting total number of fluent speakers not the total number of people whose first language is English. Also if you count just spoken language and not written I think Hindi is the second after Mandarin with Spanish third.
