Wonder how soon the Greens overtaking Tories will happen here.

Westminster won't be able to ignore that kind of number if it comes up in May.

Is the Salmond/Sturgeon story picking up much traction in Scotland? From what I've read of it, it does seem very....fishy.

I don't see Boris offering an Indy Ref 2, he's nothing to gain from it at all, he'll just say it's a once in a generation referendum and 7 years isn't sufficiently long enough to be described as a generation.

That would be a massive result.

I was in an argument with someone who I respect on these matters recently who did cause me to waver a little in support of independence. His economic argument - essentially that we'd have an insane deficit with our current levels of spending, to an unsustainable point - was pretty convincing as he produced the figures.

Self determination away from Westminster is the key point for me but I do worry about the effect it would have on healthcare and social benefits.

I don't think the Salmond/Sturgeon stuff is cutting through tbh. Independence + covid is a bit of the be all and end all currently.

Yeah, he’s on that track at the moment but there is a way around the generation thing. There’s been a material change in Scotland’s status that we were promised wouldn’t happen as part of the referendum thanks to Brexit, and Scotland voted fairly comprehensively to remain.

Word is that Westminster are already quietly preparing for a referendum in the next twelve to twenty four months, and at the current rate I’ll be fairly surprised if that doesn’t happen.

But you could raise tax and maybe look at cutting back spending. I think it'd be very tough for Scotland if they leave especially at the start.

The pressures gonna be too massive. Boris Johnson will fold like a pack of cards, its pretty much his manifesto at this point.

The Scottish government needs to produce a proper roadmap for independence that takes into account the financial issues. I think anyone who believes we won’t have a gooseberry fool decade or so after independence is kidding themselves on, but self determination and rejoining the EU are of tremendous interest to me.

No one really gives a gooseberry fool about the Salmond/Sturgeon stuff, there's more important things going on.

And so much gooseberry fool has happened in those 7 years since. Mainly Scotland being pulled out of the EU against it's own will, something that was promised wouldn't happen, and the absolute shitshow with the way the UK parliament has handled COVID.

I'll be honest, I haven't kept up with the whole thing. What's the issue, that Sturgeon knew about the Salmond sexual assault stuff a couple of days before she admitted to having been told, last year?

I guess we'll see. There've been leaks of propaganda efforts to back the Union in Scotland led by, err, Michael Gove and again, the general consensus among political ITKs at the moment is that Westminster are preparing to fight a referendum campaign over the next year or two, so I'm as optimistic as I've been since 2014.
