Tory reps are now pricing the amount spent on the railways per annum per household, "£400 per household in Britain".

I've noted the Tory spin in effect on public interviewees on the radio:

"They're whining about pay when the government spent 15 billion on the railways."

Thing is 15 billion sounds like a [/i]big number[/i], but these railways in question are operating by private companies and it is they who are not responding to the demands of the unions. So what the strawberry float does it have to do with the public purse anyway if the private companies sap that dry on executive pay and inadequate services through no fault of the rail workers, in order to make maximum profits? They are the problem here, not the tax spend and those greedy railworkers.

So for that person, the spin is working. We spend bloody well enough on these railways and the rail workers should be grateful for it, now get on with maintaining normalcy. Never question working conditions or pay or you are letting down the entire country!

Train strike hasn't affected me since I don't have to be in uni just now, but if I did have to travel I probably wouldn't be able to since Scotrail are only running trains on their precious Edinburgh-Glasgow line and basically nowhere else in Scotland, and the amount of buses cancelled on a daily basis due to lack of drivers is rediculous.

I'm sure the Tsar Bomba could be dropped on Scotland and Scotrail would still be determined to run regular trains from Edinburgh to Glasgow.

They don't run the same stories whenever people are unable to get to big life events whenever services regularly fall over, or when regional lines are left to go to gooseberry fool. People not being served by public transport only matter when the disruption is being caused by those not in charge, apparently.

Why the hell don't we have more people like that caller in the media and actual politics. strawberry float, what a caller. Knows exactly what she's talking about has excellent examples of why the strawberry float this is so all utterly ridiculous and why we should 100% be supporting the poorly paid workers of this country. It's socialism and government handouts to those at the top while poor people suffer. I hope these rail strikes go on for weeks and weeks and then more unions across more industry starts to take action as well.

The Cost of Living Crisis is world wide but it's kinda mad how the UK handle things from the outside looking in. Our entire budget is going to be based around tackling the cost of living and they are talking now to unions of all the major services to see how they can help them through things to hopefully lessen the chance of major strikes taking place. They can't mitigate everything that's going to happen but at least they are trying.

The Tories have this weird trick that they say the country is in a financial mess and criticize things almost like they are the opposition and are now demonizing striking workers. All this at the same time that Northern Ireland is prospering more than any where else in the UK because of the Protocol which they are trying to dismantle. I can't think of a more inept shambles in recent years and I haven't even got to Brexit.

Perhaps people would be more amenable to falling living standards if the government hadn't spent the last 12 years strawberry floating the country, especially so over the past two years where they pissed money away on all sorts of gooseberry fool. Maybe we need another stamp duty holiday.

The actual inepitude in the Tories is the fact that this isn't even working. They are slowly destroying their fanbase bar the hardcore and just killing the country in the process. It's even more bizarre than you think.
