Over here every single lamppost seems to have a poster up with the name and a photo of the candidate. It must cost a strawberry floating fortune!

I'm in Munich for the Metallica gig and it's the same here. This geezer is on every lamppost!

Including prospective MPs?

It's not including prospective MPs is it Rishi...

It's a great idea as long as it first starts with MPs having to do 1 year in the military. And no soft options, they have to enter the military and be treated exactly the same as any other ordinary recruit.

Let's see how many votes in Parliament the proposal would then get.

There seems to be far more time being spent poring over the details of this than was actually spent on the thing itself.

The front page of the Mirror today suggests teens who refuse will be jailed, i'm guessing Rishi didn't want anyone to read the small print in his proposal.

To be fair, teens are probably safer in prison as the Tories are letting all the paedophiles out.

I don’t like to be pedantic but a Government policy would have been developed by ministers on the advice of officials and collectively agreed. I would have had a say on behalf of NI.

But this proposal was developed by a political adviser or advisers and sprung on candidates, some of whom are relevant ministers.

Real chance she could take the DUP interim leader's seat.

Collective punishment - I guess people will start to get jailed if their family are in debt too. :datass:

There is a lot of bad blood among Tory MPs - including from many members of the Cabinet - over Rishi Sunak's unilateral decision to call an early election

Sustaining party discipline will be challenging, especially in marginal seats

Steve Baker's criticism of Rishi Sunak's flagship national service scheme could be a sign of things to come

The bad blood from Tory MPs is on several fronts:

* Some say it has made their chances of holding onto their constituencies much lower - they simply haven't had enough time to prepare
* There are complaints that they haven't had enough time to raise the funding they need
* There is anger that Sunak went straight out to campaign without meeting MPs
* Cabinet ministers were completely cut of the picture - Sunak had already been to see the King when he told them about plan for July 4 election
* Some of them are on a fundamental level fearful about their own futures - they are really worried about their own livelihoods and those of their staff

Surely he is just trying to lose at this point? How can he look at the state of the NHS, with it's massive waiting lists and decide to open his campaign with a policy that reduces public sector recruitment. We need more doctors, nurses, police - not less!

Very misleading question from The Express, processing asylum seeker claims offshore with successful applicants granted permission to enter is very different to deporting asylum seekers to an unsafe country and leaving them there even if their asylum application is successful.
