It still remains the most persuasive reason for setting the General Election on the 4th of July rather than part way through a new school year in the autumn.

I fully take back what I said two days ago, I think the tories
absolutely ARE trying to lose the election. A couple of days into this and we’re already at national service? That speaks to exactly one dwindling demographic while alienating every other one.

I can only assume they went into this knowing they’d lost the election before it was even called, that the writing is on the wall, and they’re spouting a bunch of deranged nonsense now to make whichever dead-eyed sociopath replaces Sunak as Tory leader seem reasonable by comparison.
