If Labour win 507 seats at a GE and don't radically transform the country, its politics and its media regualtion, then we're all doomed long term anyway.

Bet they'd see such a victory as a validation of FPTP.

I imagine this is a tactical move by Mordaunt, treating this as an audition of kinds to show the party and its members that she could succeed Truss.

You know a system isn’t fit for purpose when a party that comes fifth in percentage of votes would be the official opposition. And the Greens, with more votes, get one seat to the SNP’s 52.

There isn't a sum zero probability that Starmer would change FPTP with a 507 seat majority, but it's gotta be pretty close.

We technically have a system where a party could have every seat in Parliament just by getting 650 votes more than anybody else.

Fair play to them if they can get a coalition that efficient.

Sky News wrote:Sir Keir Starmer has mocked Liz Truss for ducking an urgent question on the economy in the Commons, saying "the lady is not for turning...up".

Responding to Penny Mordaunt, the Labour leader thanked her for answering the question, adding: "I guess under this Tory government, everybody gets to be prime minister for 15 minutes."

Sir Keir accused the PM of "hiding away" and said she was "scared of her own shadow".

Labour's Stella Creasy says that the PM's job is to make difficult decisions - yet she is "cowering under a desk waiting for it all to go away".

Mordaunt says "the PM is not under a desk" - then is interrupted by jeering. She says she can assure the House that the prime minister is not here for a very good reason.

abour MP Andrew Gwynne says Liz Truss is not the one in power and says there has been a "coup".

He says the prime minsister should be in Parliament to defend her decision today.

"We want to know from the prime minister why her economic plan has been trashed weeks after it was announced.

"We want to know if she is sorry for misery she has caused."

He says people who have higher mortgages for the foreseeable future are also due an apology.

Penny Mordaunt denies there is a coup, but admits these are all "serious matters for our constituents".

She's still full of gooseberry fool, though that's partly because she's been having to defend and answer the indefensible in the place of a cowardly PM, but she at least looks the part.

The level we're now at here, where just looking the part is considered to be a vast improvement over what's come before.

I can't believe she had the ovaries to say that Starmer won't get his fifteen minutes when Labour are polling at 55%.

I won't be happy until they are counted in with "Other".
