While I don’t care about the Royals I know they bring a lot of money into the country due to tourism. I wouldn’t be without the Royal Family as I think it is nice to keep that in this country.

Price Andrew though  :fp:

Very questionable. I think these are some good points:

Chester Zoo is a more popular tourist destination than Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace.

According to figures from the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions and the royal household’s own figures for their residences, Buckingham Palace is at best the 69th most popular attraction in the UK.

The Tower of London on the other hand is the 9th most popular destination in the UK and the royals haven’t lived there or had much connection with it for centuries.

Palaces and castles attract interest because of their history, not because of today’s royals. Get rid of the monarchy and Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle can be fully opened up to tourists all year.

Also when weighing up, from a purely economical perspective, the worth of the monarchy to the country, the cost of the monarchy is almost always underestimated:

All [the official costs of the monarchy] have now been rolled into one single annual payment called the “Sovereign Grant”. This has been set at 25% of surplus revenue from the crown estate - a publicly-owned property portfolio - resulting in a payment of £76.1m for 2017/2018.

However, the Sovereign Grant is just one part of the total cost of the monarchy. The royal family's security bill is picked up by the metropolitan police, for example, while the costs of royal visits are borne by local councils.

Meanwhile, income from the Duchy of Lancaster and the Duchy of Cornwall – despite belonging to the nation - goes directly to the Queen and Prince Charles respectively, depriving the treasury of tens of millions of pounds every year.

I think I have solved the problem here we just get rid of the royals and fill Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace with lions and monkeys.

She looked pretty in that picture but I can't help thinking I'd end up with a mouth full of stray pubes if I'd erm...bowed down before her :shifty:

It's highly likely i'm amass a significant collection of platinum jubilee merchandise as the year progresses, just as so happened with the diamond one in 2012.

I already have the special commemorative 50p, the palace shop tankard, the royal mail stamp pack, and a few other odds and sods.
