Can't stand coronation chicken. It's like someone sat down and said "right, how can we make a really disappointing chicken curry?"

On the current trajectory of royal news it will be one of those cakes with a big file hidden in it.

Poor Darren's getting himself upset over an imaginary cake.

He's an opportunistic grifter, whipping up faux-outrage to increase his own exposure (not the type he used to have in the classroom).

It's what a lot of political commentators are like nowadays. They are basically like that one old man in the pub who you make polite conversation with while waiting for a pint, he draws you in on a topic he's angry about and then you are left slowly trying to edge away as he rants about "the darkies". That's the level of expertise and nous people like Grimes have. It's win-win for him this sort of stuff though. You get the bigots and "anti-woke" brigade agreeing with him and it really was better back in the day ("the day" for Grimes must be about 2008) and then you get others who comment or retweet it with a view to dismissing it or arguing with him.

Either way, his tweet, his opinion and his bloody face gets recirculated and gets him more air-time. What's worse is that then gives him the platform or the need to say even more stuff.

And that's all it is he spouts. "Stuff". He's no more a political commentator than I am a bicycle. Yeah, get on my back and I might reluctantly carry you somewhere, but don't even try to ring my bell or pump air in me where am I going with this metaphor

What's everyone thoughts on Meghan? I actually like her. She gave it a try and it didn't work out so she left. Nothing wrong with that but she gets so much hate from the public for some reason.

Looking forward to the jubilee events that have been announced, might enter the ballot for the palace concert tickets when it launches.

In 2012 i was by the river thames when the jubilee pageant took place and it was brilliant.

She could be green with pink dots for all I care. I'd shag her shadow on a dry gravel path

People think they're noble for some reason and look up to them even though they're inbred, racist and harbouring a paedophile. Not to mention influencing laws despite being unelected.

It was both relatable and funny, who doesn't love Ricky Tomlinson?

I think it's mainly historical. If you look at a country like the USA which has big celebrations when some tinpot town reaches 150 years old and then you look at Britain which has millennia-old towns and cities all around us and people just digging up all sorts of interesting stuff in random rivers and fields and you can see why we would hold onto such a link to our shared past. Studying about and reading up on British history is really interesting!

But the only way we are going to ever move forward as a country is to abolish the class system and that starts at the top. Get rid of the royal family and set up a trust to maintain its historical links for tourism purposes, replace Lords with a citizens assembly that people sit on akin to jury duty and have 2: one in Winchester and one in York that alternates (this just makes it easier to travel to), decentralise Whitehall and split the country up into swiss-style prefectures along the lines of the old kingdoms (Wessex, Mercia etc) with a federal gov responsible for things like healthcare, defence and currency.

Seriously though, this is a point I always think is too often missed in the monarchy debate:

Carlos wrote:But the only way we are going to ever move forward as a country is to abolish the class system and that starts at the top.

It too often gets framed as a financial argument, how much they cost taxpayers versus how much they bring in via tourism, which completely ignores the wider social implications. We have a huge issue with classism in this country, and having a random family people think is above everyone else just reinforces the idea the idea that we are not equal and there is a hierarchy. Way too many people in this country think the royal family are better than the rest of us. They're not and some of them are utter scum bags.

There is no place for them in modern society and the sooner we bin them off the better.
