With the rumour going about that there will be a premium version of the next Xbox at launch I thought it might be worth seeing who's interested in a premium version of next gen?

I think I'm going to pick up both xbox and Playstation next gen and will get the premium xbox if it exists just to try and get the best out of my new 4k TV.
I realise this is a rather extravagant option and not for everyone so what do you plan to do?

What makes it premium?

I guess it depends on the price, and what kind of difference there is between the two versions. I'm not averse to paying more, but only if it is justifiable.

No idea :shifty: .

Maybe it has a go faster stripe as everything is better with a go faster stripe and well worth an extra £150.

Sounds like what happened with the 360, as there were two versions of that at launch.

Exactly. Not much to discuss until details are announced.

Anyway, MS kind of did this before, with the 360. The Core version wasn’t exactly popular.
EDIT: Verm beat me to it.

It'll certainly be interesting to see how they can promote the premium console while at the same time not making the base console look a bit gooseberry fool.

I'm confident the next gen will be a decent upgrade just based on the upgrade of the CPU as even the refreshes use the Jaguar cpu.

The theory is the premium version will contain a disc drive whereas the other one will be downloads only. Also there may be slightly more ram and a bigger hard drive.

I haven't really been following the rumours as I have little interest in Sony or MS right now, but if the specs were better I'd always go for the premium version as there will no doubt be games that run poorly on the entry-level hardware.

How is that better than a go faster stripe?

I'd be more than happy to buy a drive-less console, but not if it has other drawbacks too. I think that would be a really odd decision.

It's not premium if the other version is gimped.

I would pay out for a premium Switch console (one with better specs and bigger storage) but i’m not sure what I will be doing next gen yet in terms of buying the consoles. I hardly play games hooked up to a TV anymore tbh

I'm planning to do full digital next gen so a cheaper driveless system would be preferable. As long as it doesn't come with other drawbacks of course.

It depends what actually makes it premium, I’ve bought higher storage options if possible in the past but that doesn’t really make it a premium version of the console in my opinion.

If there was a normal variant and then a pro version much like the PS4/Pro then it’d be a harder decision, price dependant of course.

Makes sense, kind of. One of the limitations of console design is making them as powerful as possible at a reasonable price that will appeal to everyone. If you create basic model for the general consumer and a suped up one for those willing to pay more you can kind of have your cake and eat it.

Who cares what she thinks. I've got a console with a go faster stripe, I can now get any woman I like at a moments notice.

Boo and hiss to the idea of premium consoles. If your console isn't able to realise its full potential at launch delay it and fix it. If tech has moved on sufficiently to justify an update to hardware make a new console. Don't shaft your consumers by forcing them to upgrade to maintain their "current" generation status.
