Press any button to continue - What do you press?

So, you fire a game up on Xbox/Nintendo/PlayStation and the game says ‘Press any button to continue’ what are you pressing?

I still automatically go straight to start

X marks the spot.

(Or Cross as it’s apparently known on PS)

Angers me when this isn't actually true in games and "any button" actually means "one of a subset of available buttons", should be punishable by death.

EDIT: also pretty sure no system has actually had "start" or "select" for a good while now!

On an Xbox pad the face buttons stand for Any, Back, Xecute Attack, and Yellow.

I’ve played games recently where it’s asked me to press start/options, but X/A still works. Pure lied to.

You should just hammer ALL THE BUTTONS like a true Tekken player.

I press the power button on the console and walk away.

There was a really annoying trend in the PS3/360 era where PC ports would say "Press Enter to continue" on their title screens, which was really obnoxious since you'd have to take your right hand off the mouse to press enter.

When greeted with that message, for years I've just pressed X on my PlayStation pad.

But... recently I've started pressing triangle. It seems a bit rebellious... something that is so wrong but feels so right. I may go back to X but, right now, I just have to get it on with triangle.
