It really sounds like it's worth a look and it's currently on sale on PlayStation.

The game is brilliant and well worth anyone's time IMO, but bear in mind that the the console port was a bit wonky originally. It has recently been improved massively on Xbox thanks to their backwards compatibility but I don't know how good the PS version is going to be.

The DF video really drove home how things like input lag, 30FPS and long ass loading times really hampered the experience on the consoles and made it easier to understand why many on the console platforms hadn't been able to appreciate how great the game was on release:

I played it on original Xbox One and had great time, but yeah the issues are pretty bad. I might give it another playthrough on boyfriend's Series X just to see how much improvement it is in person, one day :eyes:

Don't worry you can find more

Almost immediately found the plans for it after that post.
Managed to fit in 50 minutes before leaving for work.. genuinely considered pulling a sicky in order to play.. haven't had that from a game in ages!

It's like a proper system shock sequel

And I'm such a scaredy cat, still skulking around slowly scared of random cups and banana peels :slol:

Actually managed to twat a mimic before it changed into its alien form.
It was very much:

"WAITAMINUTE! That baseball glove wasn't there a second ago!" *BONK!*

Yep it really does feel like a true System Shock successor in a way that nothing has in the last 20 years!

Getting a sneak attacked on a hidden mimic is a very satisfying feeling! :D

What difficulty are you playing on? Being a skulky scaredy cat is not exactly a bad tactic - even on normal difficulty you're supposed to feel a bit outmatched to start with and part of the fun comes from finding ways to avoid combat or clever ways to get the upper hand on your adversaries who have you outgunned.

Squeezed in another 20 minutes before work this morning.

Went for the recycler neuromod to get my hands on more materials. Managed to craft gooseberry fool loads of pistol rounds and gloogun ammo. That'll help with the scaredy monsters.

Aaaand had to head off to work just as I was going to do my first space walk.
I'm hoping I'm still very early into the game, as I'm really enjoying this.

Yeah you've got quite a way to go yet, it's not a huge game if you just hammer the main quest line, but if you like exploring and experimenting with things then it can keep you going for quite a while. My first play through was a good 50 hours I think

My first playthrough I was always running out of metal. So I found this room with all these metal looking objects in it and built a big stack in the middle of the room. Then I recycler grenaded it. Bam, strawberry float tonnes of metal.

I dunno why, but I thought that was really cool. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. I guess, a preconceived notion of what is possible in the game? But yeah, I adored this game and things like this are part of the reason why. It gives so many options with the glue gun, recycler and (seemingly) the dart gun.

Yeah you can harvest so much material from either collecting and depositing things in recyclers or by making a big pile of crap and dumping some recycler grenades on it! :toot:

I always had too much material rather than the other way around because I obsessively recycled everything!

Played some more last night and this morning, still skulking around as though I'm playing Alien Isolation

Just got the Psychoscope and it's very handy.
Also had a good laugh with the office covered in "Not a mimic" post-it-notes

Found my way into the directors office and absolutely gooseberry fool myself at the (incredibly obvious in retrospect) jump scare on the looking glass "chase the dot" calibration.

Also, completely rinsed the neuromod fabrication license and now have to go back to neuromod division to reset it.. ballache, but I'll do it later.

Still loving this though! The level design is great, it looks amazing, plays really nice and I'm really enjoying the vibe.
Funny how this seemingly flumped at launch.

People are awful and don't deserve good things, that's why something like this launched into obscurity and yet billions of people are playing gooseberry fool like GTA Online.

That moment with the scare is so obvious when you think about it but it's still fun!

I never had the issue with the neuromod fabrication license because I found the solution to it before it ever came up. That's one of the things I love about the game - objectives and the state of the world are not just tied to the player hitting certain triggers etc. (although this is the case in some situations of course) so there are many things that you can do before you're even told about them explicitly which makes it all feel more real and organic. For example there are many items/notes/logs that are specifically tied to quests that come up quite late in the game but they all exist within the world from the start, they don't just spawn when the quest begins as they would in many other games. You can find some really useful gooseberry fool early on as a result if you know where to look!

Speaking of which, I have loads of shotgun ammo, but no shotgun.
I've come to the conclusion that I ought to have it by now, and I've probably walked right past it

Haha. If I recall rightly there is a shotgun in the Lobbyif you explore everywhere. In fact I think that there are two that can be found there - one is on a body and the other is out in the open but needs some creative thinking if you want to get it early.

I can't remember how long it is before you find the fabrication plan for the shotgun, it might be a while so it's probably a smart move to head back to the lobby and grab one there!

Decided not to progress into the G.U.T.S and went back to Neuromod division to reset the Neuromod license.

Completely caught unaware when sneaking into Fabrication through the maintenance shaft in the Volunteer quarters.

Had very little ammo on me (and still no Shotgun) so was unprepared to face my first Poltergeist (actually not that bad) and Technopath.

The latter was completely unexpected.. took all my 9mm and creative use of explosive canisters to take him down.

It was actually quite funny actually, I was scanning the room and saw the contaminated Operators dotted around, before I got spotted and it just loomed over the bannister rail like a massive floating elephant

Yeah I got that shotgun in the lobby security office very early on while exploring.

All this Prey talk encouraged me to boot it up this evening for yet another playthrough. Before I knew it I looked at the clock and it's 1AM!

The capacity these types of games have to make me feel utterly absorbed in their world's will never cease to amaze me! :toot:

Had a few weeks off of this but went back to it last night, did the travelling through the G.U.T.S and then got to the Arboretum.

Could have done with a heads up about the 20ft tall Arnold Schwarzenegger Typhon wtf :slol:

Did some good vertical exploring and found a transcribe about the golden gun. Got it shortly after 8-)

Stopped after doing some stuff in the crew quarters (after dying because it spawned that massive strawberry floating thing in my face as I entered the new area)

The Nightmare Is Hunting You!

They could have done with a bit more time to find more interesting ways to use that form of the Typhon, and some people are really not a fan of it, but personally I quite liked it as a way to mix things up

This is free on Epic Game Store for a week. Anyone on PC who hasn't given it a go, I strongly recommend you pick it up! :toot:

Just started this (ps4 version on ps5). Jen pls be proud.

Seems good so far. Loved breaking out from the sim - I guess most people would go through the apartment window, but I went through the fish tank
