jawafour wrote:The reviews are arriving and they're generally very positive. It's probably fair to say that the latest edition is an evolution rather than a revolution, with the core gameplay style in line with the games of the past year or two albeit a tad more patient and structured. I like the sound of this as, for me, the feel and playability has been great in recent years.

I'm ready to return to Online Divisions :toot: .

I'm going to be all about the Master League Jawa!

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I'll post regular, detailed updates about bouncing between Divisions 6 and 7 :datass: .

Got pretty boring in FIFA facing Real/Barca/PSG over and over again.

I'm not sure if it has that option, Phote... it disappeared a couple of years back - probably because few people used it (even though it's a great idea!). From playing the Online Divisions mode over the past years, it's fair to say that many people do pick Real or Barca (yawn) but thankfully you usually get a few games against other teams, too. But, yeah, I suspect that we'll be playing PSG a lot now, too.

Okay, we're go!

First up... Neymar still features in Barca kit on the opening and title screens :fp:  . And then you get 14 (fourteen!) Online information messages... classic PES   . I'll catch up on them later - lets move on for now. Uhm... now you need to register a Konami ID for "info". I'll skip that for now.

We're at the main menu and it looks exactly like last year. BUT... the menu colouring is not great for colour-blind folk like me. The "selected" item is very light blue whilst non-selected items are white - I find it difficult to tell them apart. Grr. Oh, and the first music track I've heard is bloody awful... some lass yelling - I think - "Not enough" - it's probably massively cool and popular, but I don't know it  . Luckily it's just changed - much better!

Okay - I'm gonna play an Ehibition (i.e. one-off) match!

The BGM and commentary are always the first things to go whenever I play a game like this.

Right, I'll play as Lazio v Leiciester. Increased the Match level from "Regular" to "Professional" and left the match ball design as this year's new one - "Tripletta".

The pre-match menu seems to be very similar to last season's; which is fine as it's all reasonably clear. But... on the team line-up screen, the player positions for attacking players are labelled as red on a dark background - with colour blindness, they can barely be read :fp: . It appears that, as with past years, you can only save a max of three sets of team settings. I've no idea why this hasn't been expanded! For now, I'll stick to the defaults

Right... we're about to kick off!

Oops - I'm gonna turn off the commentary as I never keep that on. The pre-match images look excellent; really smart.

Ah! We have the new "one player" kick-off routine now.

Blimey - the graphics are great! Good representations of the players and excellent animation. The pitchside figures seem to be more populous, too - there are loads of photographers. The replay sequence has a really bold blue and green design - but I quite like it!

The first goal! On nineteen minutes... and it goes to Lazio! Whoop! Lovely passing and then a bit of a scramble as the ball is bundled over the line. Nice reaction from the keeper as he kicks the air in frustration!

This is playing very smoothly in the opening minutes; no slowdown or "sticky" feeling.

36 minutes and it's 1-1! Lovely play from Leicester (CPU) as they break through a packed defence with some sily skills, before James dummies the keeper and tucks the ball away really well. Game on!

Right, goal kicks work completely differently. You don't get a visible mark, you just hold Circle to control the power and use the left stick for direction. It seems fine but will take some practice.

Half-time and it's 1-1. I've changed to a more attacking formation for the second half.

Ooh, some lovely new animation there! My player was sandwiched by two Leicester midfielders but he broke through the foul with the ball and play continued - nice stuff.

Some passing stats popped up as the Leicester keeper took a goal kick.

62 minutes and it's 2-1 to Lazio! My first corner and, as with goal kicks, the directional controls have altered this year. I popped it near post and Lucic raced in to head his second goal of the game via a defelection. Great stuff!

3-1! 71 minutes in and Immobile latches onto a lovely through ball... the keeper comes out but the forward strokes the ball inside the post.

The graphics and animation seem to have been polished this year - it really does look swell.

That's it... a 3-1 victory for Lazio. I'm pretty impressed so far; the gameplay is not remarkably different to last year but remains fluid and realistic. The pace feels *slightly* slower... perhaps a wee bit more like real football and less pinball-y than before. The graphics really are swish - there were some excellent new one-handed save animations for the keepers.

Right, that made for a good warm-up. I'm gonna venture online :) :dread: :toot: .
