Octopath was good. Final Fantasy Tactics was good. Octopath Tactics should be good.

I had a look at the character stat screen in the demo as I didn't have time to actually play. That looks like a good stat screen.

I'm very looking forward to this.

Loading times on this demo are poor :dread:

I like what I have played so far though

Getting serious Tactics Ogre vibes from the trailer, will have to give the demo a punt.

This.

Hopefully there'll be a PC port at some point.

I really hope that, like Octopath, the name sticks

Will certainly be downloading the demo as this was easily the best game of the whole Direct.

I did download the demo but haven't really given it time... a lot of dialogue for a story that the demo confesses to being in the middle of the game so you'll be lost story wise. And i didn't event to any strategy/combat which again the demo confessed is ramped up to shoe that it can be like when its balls to the wall time.

Yeah, I did think the amount of story was pretty crazy. I was fast forwarding through it all to get to the stat screen and it still took ages.

I'll actually put time in tomorrow, though, but I can already see it having some fun combos.

This is so bland, the writing is horrible, the music is forgettable generic guff. The combat is good but since it’s clearly taking inspiration from Tactics Ogre and FF Tactics you need to have a decent story and OST to back up the combat.

Octopath Traveler was the exact same, trying to homage Final Fantasy VI but with an awful story and OST.

Can’t we just have a new Tactics Ogre, Square?

Knowing your love for Tactics Ogre then your feedback has put me right of it for now. It could be that the story and soundtrack is just there as a placeholder given this demo seems to be released pretty early. I'll wait for a review but don't think I'll bother with the demo this far out.

God, I'd love a Switch remake of TO: Let Us Cling Together. That game was so strawberry floating good.

I have no interest in this game, due to the strategy gameplay and ‘meaningful choice’ elements; but I can confirm that Chris saying that Octopath’s soundtrack was awful means that you should never listen to his opinion on anything ever.

Nobody should ever listen to me, despite being right about Octopath’s OST.

Okay, real talk: I didn’t care that much for Octopath all told. I found the plots of variable quality, same for the voice acting, the random battles and grinding bordered on the oppressive, and the way you had to do the secret bonus superboss to tie them all together... I’d say it’s a 6/10. That said, the two aspects I will unequivocally go to bat for were the visuals and the music. Especially the battle themes, which were ace; but the town theme for Bolderfall, and the creepy music when you enter the Part 4 towns, were also excellent.

Each to their own, but I do think you’re likely to be in the minority there Chris.

Yeah, saying the music in Octopath isn't great certainly is a take. That game definitely had problems, but the soundtrack wasn't one.

An Ill Omen is a great track.

It is a shame I'll probably never hear the rest of the soundtrack in game as I can't stomach the grinding. I'll give the demo of this a go but I'm not surprised by people saying the writing is subpar.

Is this meant to be set in the same world as OT?

Definitely going to download the demo for this, still very hesitant to even think about buying it as I loved the demo for Octopath Traveller (which I may try once more before finally giving up on it ) but didn’t really get on with the game as well as the demo. The graphical style is just gorgeous

I kind of wish they’d add an easy mode into Octopath, where new characters are auto levelled to your starting character, would certainly make the game less of a grind.

I skipped through almost all the story since I'll be doing it properly anyway, but I do like the way you can just press X during dialogue to get a "Who is this?" screen when people are talking.

Of the two battles I did, they seemed pretty easy, and considering they said they raised the difficulty for the demo that seems a bit of a problem. Maybe it was just the fights I had, since the first one had the enemy defending a point so they weren't really doing anything, and we had a powerful ally unit for support, then the second had a bunch of instant kill zone triggers that you could pretty easily bait the enemies into. Damage is pretty real on anybody not a tank though, but considering I used someone as bait and let them die, then they were back in the next cutscene I'm going to assume there's no penalty to people dying.

What option did people get for the vote, btw? That's a pretty significant choice, and based on what the outcomes could be there it will be telling just how hard they're going in on the "Your choices matter" thing.
