PS3 Cables on a SDTV

So I have bought a second PS3 for use, albeit I am having to hook it up to an SDTV.

It looks pretty pants out of the box, but I have heard this could be improved with another cable.

I am a tech novice when it comes to these, so what is the best cable I can buy for an SDTV?

From the looks of it, I think my TV will only take a the type of cable that has red, blue and yellow plugs.

I have seen an AV cable in a local store, but is this the same as the one that comes with the PS3?

I think that you're looking for a scart cable

That's the thing, I don't even think the TV has a scary connection. It has the power bit, the bit where the aerial goes, and then a place for the red, yellow and blue pins.

Is that red white and yellow (composite) or red green blue and red + white (component)

Ah, red, white and yellow I think (I am away for the weekend and not at home, so can't check).

Does a scary connection make all games into horror games?

Composite AV (red, yellow, white) and bog standard scart are the same thing, you need to check if the scart socket will take RGB scart.

Scart is just a universal connection standard, the signals are different.

Buy a cheap small HDTV.

It's a red, white and yellow composite connection.

I don't actually have a scart socket though - just a place for the red, white and yellow pins to go.

And buying a HDTV is out of the question really. This TV actually belongs to my landlord and if I buy another for myself, I then have the awkward dilemma of either shipping it back to the UK or selling it before I leave for home.

Sadly you are stuck mate. You're in the business of buying the thickest, quad shielded etc cable you can find and all that stuff. Set your budget and there's probably some kind of high end cable out there. It may make little or no difference. Personally I wouldn't invest. Modern TVs have options to reduce noise and fiddling with the contrast and saturation can help, other than that the composite standard is just not good.
