What's this about a bomb threat? Was this Lizard kid behind it?

He tweeted to American Airlines about a possible bomb being on the plane.

So what has happened here? Someone has attacked PSN, someone else has taken credit (lizard losers) and now the real perpetrator has revealed their IP addresses?

Yes?

Yes and also his own twitter identity. Why do people do this sort of thing; literally ruining millions of people's fun :fp: :(

Go to settings, network, untick connect to the internet. Still not working? Alternatively if using wired unplug the cable.

PlayStation Network Update

Sid Shuman's Avatar + Posted by Sid Shuman on Aug 24, 2014 // Senior Manager, Social Media

Like other major networks around the world, the PlayStation Network and Sony Entertainment Network have been impacted by an attempt to overwhelm our network with artificially high traffic.
Although this has impacted your ability to access our network and enjoy our services, no personal information has been accessed.

We will continue to work towards fixing this issue and hope to have our services up and running as soon as possible.

We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.

I somehow thought we'd all got beyond DDos attacks. :fp: Is it true this time they at least haven't legged it with our credit card details?

For fame and because it makes them feel powerful and important. I just wonder how powerful they'll feel while locked up prison.

Then of course there are simply people who just like to see the world burn, to quote Alfred. Attacking a company with DDoS and justifying it by saying you're only doing it because they're not doing enough to avoid DDoS attacks is quite hilarious though, in a disturbing way at least, perhaps a murderer should go on a killing spree and claim he's doing it because the government aren't doing enough to stop murders. Proof of deep-rooted insanity.

Quite. They'll be caught - it's really incredibly easy for US security services to find literally anyone, especially people with an online connection. On the bright side, it's times like this I'm glad of Killzone SF's offline botmode - working fine. A pleasant enough way to pass the time this afternoon.

DDOSing has literally nothing to do with hacking or stealing information. It's essentially tricking a website or service into thinking a huge number of people are trying to access it all at once until it crashes.

PSN is back online now.
