Can we have a separate thread for this game?

We may not even get it in the west, but one of my top ten games i need to play!

The graphics looks good, although we need a proper hd video before it can be judged.

It looks really good.

If Yakuza 5 and 0 are having Western releases I'm sure we'll get this eventually.

Why I *really* love Yakuza:

Image Image

The lovely depictions of mouthwatering food.

I say mouthwatering but, tbh, seeing food on any screen never makes me hungry in the least, but I still love that the Yakuza games choose to depict it with actual clean images and not just text/blurry in game textures. Though I think I'll be at my happiest when they get around to putting the food on plates, as high res textures, in front of characters.

-This scenario has been made exclusively for the demo, not in the final game
-Fully real-time, nothing pre-rendered in the demo.
-Kiryu's outfit is not final
-Seamless throughout. :o  :o
-Small character surprises at the end of the demo: Older Haruka and Takeshi Kitano's voice!

The way blood splatters over the environment in indoor fights looks great. Environment physics have also seen a big improvement.

...those burger signs....mmmhmm.

 That YT video still.

Nagoshi said the demo represents about 70% quality of the final game.

The graphics are already amazing. They just need to tune the combat and camera.

Just finished the demo. Loved it. Camera needs some work but it is shaping up to be the best Yakuza. Those expanded indoors environments!

Also weird you can take screenshots and video unlike all the previous PS4 Yakuza games.

Why don't they release these games in the countries that matter?

Apparently, it worked like that in one of the other previous demos but share functionality was limited to premium mode and... something else (arena?) once the game proper was released.

Ah ok, I noticed played Kiwami that it wasn't possible then went back and tested it on all my PS4 Yakuza games. I'm pre-ordering 6 ASAP.

Because they released Dead Souls (monster themed Yakuza TPS spin-off) which bombed and Sega used it as an excuse to stop releasing mainline Yakuza games over here. Though it also coincided with an announcement of them dialling back game releases in general and concentrating on more bankable IPs. Which for Sega is... strawberry float knows what. Those idol games? Anyway, up to Dead Souls bombing I am pretty sure every home console Yakuza games had been released in the west.

Good to hear your positive feedback!

I haven't seen the demo playthrough, so I have no idea what's up with the camera. Is it placed too close to player in battle, or something?

Battle is fine it is just the indoor environments that sometimes trip the camera up in some places. Tight spaces and all that. I'm sure it'll be fixed before release.

Anyway of downloading the demo yet? I have my japanese account on standby! Everyone should give yakuza 0 a go - the graphics and framerate are far beyond those in yakuza 5 and this looks like another step up!

Still not too far into yakuza 5, so will appreciate its joys in the meantime.

2.2Gb download too. Good size for a 40-60 min demo.

Y6 demo will probably become available for general download at a later point. Maybe. If you want to play it right now, then you need a code found in copies of Yakuza Kiwami.

Looking good so far, is it general consensus that 5 is by far the best in the series so far?

Also, am I right in thinking all entries in the main series have seen western release now?

It would appear that many of these issues are tied to the physics interactions made possible in the new engine. As enemies collide with the scenery and objects go flying every which way, the performance really starts to bog down. Of course, this is still an early build so we're hopeful that these dips could be ironed out for release - but it is disappointing that 30fps is likely to remain the target frame-rate bearing in mind the Kiwami experience.

Beyond that, the resolution drops to 900p (for this early demo at least) while indirect specular lighting operates at an even lower resolution, not unlike Rise of the Tomb Raider. Taken together, we're left with a game that looks much less clean than Yakuza Kiwami - the game with which the demo is included. Clearly these were sacrifices necessary for the development team in order to reach its objectives but at the same time, it does feel a little regressive coming from higher resolutions and faster frame-rates.

Still, despite these concerns, we can't deny that the demo leaves a strong impression. Despite running for ten years, the series has not seen dramatic progress from a technical perspective. Yakuza 6 represents only the second major overhaul in the series and so far, the development team seems to be on the right track. Aside from the technical issues, Yakuza 6 manages to address every gameplay concern we've had with the series. Fully seamless worlds and battles which never steal away control before or after the fight combine with eye catching visuals and a high level of immersion. We'll be keeping an eye on the game when it launches in Japan later this year.
