Same here, Robbo! I love gaming on my PS4 but I'd be cool with switching back to Xbox if I felt it had more attraction for me. I definitely don't want to get into multi-format gaming any more (the rise of subscription services is turning me off from that) and, unless things change on a personal front, I won't be jumping aboard anywhere near launch.

Which is perfect, really, as I can wait to see what games turn up, hopefully see a price drop and get the Slim revision instead :-D .

Before Covid 19 I would have said power was more important. By the end of this year it's going to be selling to a very price conscious customer. In an ideal world you'd want the most powerful machine and the cheapest, but that's going to require a massive hit. It's what Microsoft did with the original Xbox though. £100 just came off in a matter of weeks, and it was already operating at a huge loss at £300.

PlayStation fans will continue to buy into the PlayStation brand, likewise for Xbox fans.

I don't think you'll get the number jumping ship to the Sony camp like we saw during the Xbox One pre-launch period following on from the farcical arrogance Microsoft showed about not being able to share games, DRM & that stupid f-ing Kinect POS camera that added £100 to the price.

Microsoft might pinch few back who are on the fence if they can make a statement about the Xbox being the most powerful. Having the most power seems to matter apparently and is a big draw regardless of what everyone thinks.

Being backwards compatible means that those who just buy one console will pretty much keep to the ecosystem they are already in.

If they don't show any games, then I'm not really interested

I'll still be a 2 platform gamer! Just the Switch and one other. Like yourself I won't be jumping in at or near launch unless something truly amazing shows up. Waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6 before I make a definite choice currently.

The demos I saw on the Xbox Series X were all very meh anyway. Just early ports of games, nothing meaty.

I quite like deep dives into the technical stuff anyway. So hopefully we will get some of that.

I don't know the percentage of people that have 2 consoles (or all 3) but by having the most powerful machine the platform holder will also shift a few more multiformat games than they otherwise would have and make more money from licensing. Red Dead Redemption 2 for example still performed in terms of sales far better on PS4, but there's going to be that segment that just bought it on Xbox One X because it (was) the best version.

Multiplayer is probably a bit different. Unless it's cross-platform (which will definitely increase), you're going to go where your friends and family are.

Nintendo is doing their Direct tomorrow too so perhaps for a console manufacturer it has to be business as usual, and perhaps in these times it provides an upbeat story of escapism, but I would maybe have waited a couple of weeks for the hysteria to wear off.

I was expecting somebody to mention the new Xbox to me today, but nobody has as of yet. Wider media coverage has been almost non-existent.

If the virus continues, Series X and PS5 will have to be delayed, not only because of logistics, but because people just won't have an extra £500+ to spare any more. Jobs gone, economies a mess, recession all over the place...couldn't ask for a worse time to launch a premium console.

This is some end of days gooseberry fool. On the other thread I thought Microsoft had chosen an odd time, but now Sony choose to do their reveal just two days later -not even wait until the next week! My guess is behind the scenes they fear that Microsoft could run away with the coverage. But, all so odd.

If there's hardly any games available then there's no point releasing the consoles this year anyway. I'd rather they push back deep into 2021 than have a botched 2020 release.

We're there any ports, though? My understanding was Microsoft were showing everything that the tech of backwards compatibility was capable of and there wasn't any new games at all.

As interested as I am to see what the PS5 can offer, I already know I won't be jumping ship. With backwards compatibility, I've got little reason to do so.

Really don't understand this obsession with most powerful console is best mentality that seems to be going around at the moment. Very rarely has that mattered and like always it comes down to software and price.

Be interesting to see what they show tomorrow.

Do you often contemplate the complexity of life?

I think this is mostly going to be a bunch of tech talk since it was originally planned for GDC. I still love hearing that stuff tho >,>

Yeah this got me curious. Because I have a feeling the PS5 could technically be "weaker", but just boast more features somewhat.

I try not to get sucked into the hype too much - “most exciting hardware in 20 years!” - as while Sony delivered on PS1 and PS4, the PS2 and 3 hype machine was properly ridiculous. From a console so powerful Saddam Hussein was supposed to be stockpiling them (PS2) to that Killzone 2 trailer at E3 that turned out to be completely fake, I’m not falling for this again.

I'm pretty sure that age of Sony is long over tho lol. They cleaned up a lot of their act this gen. Of course still important to reserve hype.

Maybe when you've seen enough console launches you've been there and worn the hat. I mean I'm looking forward to finding out all about the PS5 but at the end of the day it's 'just' going to be a box that's faster with better graphics same with Xbox Series X.

Are Sony just releasing one spec at launch? Or doing similar to Microsoft and having two of varying power levels for people to choose from? Or have Microsoft scrapped that idea anyway?
