The fact they have announced this right after Xbox has done theirs is very surprising, I must say.

Would it be a little cynical to wonder if both MS and Sony decided that now would be a great time to release details on their new consoles as many more folk are at home and looking online?...

But, yeah, PS5 >> XSX confirmed :datass: .

Joke.

About time I say. I'm intrigued to see what they will talk about it.

I feel there needs to be more aquatic references.

I look forward to Cerny dishing out a load of numbers and Hertz n gooseberry fool, and we'll all be like...

I'd love it if Cerny walked on, threw some papers to the side and said "at Sony we're all about the games!". Followed by twenty minutes of actual PS5 game footage and zero tech chat. Finish off with a five-second glimpse of the console and then a release date appearing on screen.

Wonder if they've made the presentation a bit more consumer friendly now its no longer just for Devs. The TF info (or lack of) will be interesting.

If it's not Digital Foundry it's not worth bothering with!

I on the other hand would love it if he said "At Sony we love graphs so here a 3 hour lecture with plenty of lovely graphs about why our teraflops are better than Microsoft teraflops!" and then just goes into a frenzy of unintelligible tech specs and Trek style technobable.

That would instantly win the next gen :toot: .

Hee-hee, I love Digital Foundry, really, but I do get a little frustrated when we hear all about the power of new systems and then the launch games are slightly upgraded versions of current gen titles. I want to see two or three must-have titles that will wow us!

Microsoft have built a Xbox ecosystem that is hard to knock. The latest hardware looks phenomenal and they have the rock-solid back-end cloud services etc on top. It's hard to see how Microsoft can fail unless they price the new hardware over £600.

It will be interesting to see if the PS5 can out-muscle the Series X with power.

I'll get both anyway. Best of both 'n all that.

I suppose it depends on how good or not the PS5 is.
I can't see Sony being able to deliver more power for the same price as Microsoft seem to have got pretty decent bang for its buck but I suppose they could be going down the PS3 road and taking massive losses on launch machines.

The Series X & PS5 architecture is fairly similar by all accounts so both machines will be roughly on par with each other.

I just think they'll be a sting in the tail with the cost. It can't go unnoticed that consumers are happy to drop a grand or more on a smart phone, so maybe Sony & Microsoft won't feel the need to take such a loss on initial hardware inventories for the first 12-24 months.

Who needs an expensive stage presentation when all you have to do these days is post a logo and a 4 line press release on social media and within an hour it's got over 46,000 likes.

Before Covid 19 I would have said power was more important. By the end of this year it's going to be selling to a very price conscious customer. In an ideal world you'd want the most powerful machine and the cheapest, but that's going to require a massive hit. It's what Microsoft did with the original Xbox though. £100 just came off in a matter of weeks, and it was already operating at a huge loss at £300.

After the explosion of Xbox news and specs I'm not surprised that Sony are now ready to reveal some details about the PS5, wonder if they'll show/announce any launch games though? Really exciting for me as I've posted in the Xbox thread, I have no idea which one of the two to actually opt for! Past couple of gens I've had each but these days I really don't have the time to dedicate to 3 consoles, I'll probably be pushing it with 2 to be truthful.
