Surely hooking it up to external storage is going to destroy the access speed performance that they have been making so much fuss about? Presumably you would have to use the external drive as a backup area and transfer games between that and the internal storage in order to actually play them.

The Fortnight generation appear to think it’s the coolest looking gooseberry fool imaginable. AV bores (us, basically) less so.

It looks like a games console. And trying to transplant myself back to being a kid again, wasn’t that they didn’t look like every other piece of hifi equipment your boring Dad had kinda the allure?

It'd be cool if the white sides were swappable, so at least you could have a colour setup thats a bit more visually appealing.

Will the console sans disc drive be cheaper?

I think I would go for that if it was.

Yes, and yes. Though the BC games could play directly from it. (It was mentioned in the Cerny tech talk.)

I like the white one, i had a white PS4 and was gutted when it broke and i had to replace it with a black one.

But the other reason the PS5 Digital Edition makes sense for Sony is because of marketing. It’s the same reason that movie theaters sell a medium popcorn and then a significantly larger popcorn for just 25 cents more. If PS5 launches at $500 or $600, Sony could release the Digital Edition for $450 or $550. This gives people a mental pathway to convince themselves that they are just paying $50 more for a significantly more capable product instead of the $600 price in a vacuum.

I'll be getting the disc drive version no matter what, as i will be using it as a blu ray player just as i do with my PS4.

There were a lot of people actually saying they wanted it to look like a console again. I guess it was just too avant-garde for them

I wonder if those that love it realise or care just how big it is. (Thankfully it's not an issue for me as I have a giant desk I put my consoles on already and the space on it is very fluid, so something oversized still won't be an issue.)

That’d be part of my reasoning for still going for the disc version as well, getting rid of my blu ray player would free up a bit of space for my eventual PS5 or Series X! They’re both going to need plenty of space as well :lol!:
