I know we've got a few NHS staff as members so I thought this might be of interest:

twitter.com/uk_ie/status/1255435813099364352

Games companies including Xbox, EA, and Activision have launched a new initiative to give free games to frontline NHS staff. Video games have been a great help to many in combating the frustrations of the coronavirus lockdown but although there’s the occasional free deal the problem is that games are expensive, and many can’t afford to keep buying new ones. With that in mind a new initiative called Games for Carers has been launched, supported by UK industry body Ukie, marketing firm Keymailer, and dozens of video game publishers and developers. Games for Carers was the brainchild of journalist Chris Scullion, who was inspired by being sent a free code himself and then contacted Ukie in order to try and involve games companies on a mass scale.

I bet there's already at least a few dozen Facebook posts about "Why just NHS workers?"

Good on these companies for doing this, I hope the games are really free to keep forever and they get more companies on board.

Is this the same UKIE that lobbies for massive tax breaks for companies like rockstar so they can just keep millions more in profit?

I can think of another way they can support the NHS...

strawberry floating NHS workers getting all the breaks! :x

Great idea though, if it helps some key people get through the current situation better then it's a win.

Is that wrong? It's titled Games For Carers - yet only applies to NHS staff. Carers are dealing with PPE shortages, Covid in homes and staff shortages too. Not the same as the front line in A&E I admit, but the scheme title is just begging for people to fire back at it to be honest.

Surely not using the word carer would have eliminated the eventual comments :shifty:

Games for NHS or something.

*Note I'm not being negative about the offer, it's fantastic.

I think the reason it applies to NHS staff (same for many companies) is the use of NHS email addresses. It's easy to sift electronically from recognised @nhs.com emails. Whereas adding every care home, independent hospital, council, private sector care establishment means adding so many more email domains which is a challenge. Also, a lot of care staff don't have work emails as they're not really necessary in a paper office environment.

These NHS offers might expand to all care staff with valid ID (another thing a lot of floor staff won't actually have) but linking these to private email addresses leaves the businesses and generosity open to exploitation.

I agree this is the reason they do this as it’s easy to confirm if they work for the NHS. However many people work for the NHS who either zero contact with covid patients or who’s work is not even impacted by it.

Me on the other hand I’ve now been into six different houses with a confirmed covid patient. One of which was a person who had died from it. Thankfully I haven’t caught the illness from any of them. It does start to grate though after a while when all you hear is NHS this, NHS that.

What's your NHS email address Bunni? Just updating the GRcade address book.

I entered my email and it said it wasn't valid. They must have already gone through the staff and checked who was a front line worker or not...? Seems that would have been difficult.

EDIT: Oh, tried it again just now and it worked. Seems they must not have had it up and running properly when I was in work today. Now I'll have to wait to tomorrow to actually get on a work computer and check it out though.

I don't see why couldn't add other groups to this as every trust has a different email domain so they must have had to register quite a few just to cover the NHS. No reason they could not add the domains of other services as well.

So is this one game per NHS email address and games are on there for a limited time?

I'm only relief staff for NHS so don't have one. And if I did, my husband would have it.

Checked this morning at seven thirty. No games left for ps4, Xbox or switch. Just steam.
Anyone know what time they become available.

Having no luck at all trying to get a game. I’ve been told that midnight is a decent time to try but haven’t checked then myself.
