Psychonauts 2 (XB/PC/PS4/Game Pass) - 32 part "making of" documentary out now.

I should say as well - one way of getting round my complaints was playing it in small chunks, which helped.
The last level is complete balls so I YouTubed the ending :shifty:

The most difficult bit of the last level gets a lot easier if you use invisibility a lot. The escort section is terrible though.

Don't get me wrong, it looks FAR better than I thought it would and I'm sure will look great on next gen but it should be great on last gen also...

I think I’m right at the end of the first game, but I don’t really want to check in case is still have not completed the worst bit of Meat Circus yet :dread:

That being said, I have loved the general vibe of the game, and am all in for a Psychonauts 2. I just hoped the camera is a bit more polished this time (I’m sure it will be), and that the powers are on a paused real time “weapons wheel”.

I have just beaten

for the second time and have gone straight in to another boss fight. It feels like it’s probably the end but maybe you can confirm.

Yeah that's the end. You can do it in less than a minute probably, it's hilariously easy.

I replayed the first game recently too and it has aged really, really badly. The writing is the only good thing about it. I hope the sequel is wildly different in terms of what it tasks you to do - endless collecting of stuff, shonky platforming and poor level design kills the first game stone dead.

Counterpoint- The original game is still excellent and the only actively bad thing is the last level which I completed for the first time yesterday.

That's cos it's not next gen. It's main platforms are PS4/XB1. That said it's getting a boost on Series consoles only.

I don’t want to sound like a fanboy, but next gen is ratchet and clank rift apart, but I expect the series x to be more capable because of rdna 2, tools being suddenly found etc. The textures from that video look last gen, but as photek said, it is a last gen game, so good enough as long as it runs at 60fps.

I wasn’t even interested in this till I saw the gameplay in tonight’s developer interviews stream, looks like it could be really good actually. Reckon I need to play the first one beforehand or will jumping straight into Psychonauts 2 be viable?

I’m sure starting straight on the second one would be fine, but it looks like there are a lot of call backs to characters from the first game (seemingly all of them).

I played through it over the past week and enjoyed the story and atmosphere, but the gameplay is a bit…. trying in places.

I have high hopes for the sequel.

There was a VR game as well set in between 1 and 2.

I really should pick that up next time its only a couple of quid.

I’ll probably just start with the sequel then unless I find myself with nothing to play and download the first one off of Game Pass then.

The first one is an excellent game, you should play it.

With a guide! Some levels were a mess.

Is it a long game? I’ll have a guide to hand just in case I get stuck then :lol:

I’ll be finishing off Halo 3 and 4 first though, been loving going through the MCC. Get Psychonauts out of the way before starting on the Fable trilogy.

The original Psychonauts is a bit of an unpolished gem. Notable for being very inventive. No two levels in the game are alike. Definitely recommended no despite a few issues here and there.

It took me 12 hours. As said above, every level is different from the last. There is a particularly impressive table top battlefield one.
