If there's one thing videogames can nail more than any other medium, it's the ability to make the player do this:

Whether it's through subtle nuance or a nice big chunk of cheese, these moments are always welcome. In fact, in this age of everyone's-a-critic, nitpick-everything mentality and "super mature cinematic storytelling", it's incredibly enjoyable (when done right) to see something ridiculous and large-ham. The Mass Effects had a fair few of these. <3 Which classic moments had you cheering at your telly? Observe spoilers though, of course!

Mine:

Resident Evil - Code: Veronica
Wesker returning, and in awesome badass special forces gear. Yeah it was spoiled by having his face dead centre of the title screen, but it was still ace.

Resident Evil - Code: Veronica X
When Wesker arrives as in the original CV, but this time rewritten by Lord Shinji to be the magnificent bastard we deserve. Such a transformation, such a bastard. <3

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Justice for All
Matt Engarde is an absolute hypercunt. He's got everything planned out, every loophole closed - he's even blackmailing the contract killer who did his bidding. So when you get the right evidence to prove to the hitman that he's being double crossed, and he frees his hostage and turns on Engarde, well the way the smug bastid switches from that grin to pure terror is wonderful. I'll be having that brandy, mate.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney − Trials & Tribulations
Dahlia Hawthorne is an absolute megadick. She's got everything planned out, every loophole closed - she's even somehow managed to get rid of Maya. So when you get the right evidence to unravel her plot, as well as things she didn't expect, the triumphance of impending victory starts to dawn on you. But then she flips everything around. All looks lost, but THEN the Cornered theme starts - not the usual T&T version, but a rearranged version of the Cornered theme from the original game. Theme music power up, and Dahlia Hawthorne piss off. I'll be taking that victory, love.

Mass Effect 3:
ME3 can feel like a slog, both by design and due to other, less fortunate reasons. So when Grunt decides to make a last stand against the Reaper Rachni to allow Shepard and co to escape, it feels pretty definitive as he's swarmed by giant space gits while very sad music plays. Shepard gets on the shuttle, but, providing story branches are right, out walks Grunt from the caves, knackered, bloody and looking like an absolute badass. Glorious, and not only triumphant, but a relief.

Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker
Twelve foot tall maniac bug man with more teeth than the entire Osmond family: "I have shields mate, bullets don't work."
Shepard: *Cracks knuckles* "Then we do this the hard way."
Me: :datass:

Shadow Warrior 2:
Fighting a massive demon spider with a super magic sword and many guns as noted Stan Bush fan Lo Wang is awesome enough, but when a brand new Stan Bush track kicks in for the battle? Aw hell yeah. 8-)

Funny, I agree with the point of the post, but pretty much all the examples are triumphant points in a story, which is easily replicable in a movie, as opposed to actual gaming feats by the player, like finally overcoming a tough obstacle or boss after several attempts.

The story finale in Mario Odyssey, as you take control of Bowser to escape the moon. A fun little section that lets you go to town with some cool new powers.

And then the lyrics kick in. :datass:

I meant as in, since you're interacting directly with the product/playing a character, it allows for greater emotional investment and greater impact as a result. :toot:
