I used to have loads of smaller bans but they all disappeared when the ban thread changed

I recall that for a while me and silva were neck and neck for all time ban records, but for completely separate styles

Those bans are so tame compared to resetera. I love the OFFICIAL STAFF COMMUNICATION as well.

"Staff Communication" itself would suffice, even if the word "staff" has always irked me somewhat. I mean, just "announcement" or "locking rationale" or something actually meaningful and not redundant would be better.

I don't think warnings are even a thing over there, because it's literally faster to just push a button with a random duration number and type some half arsed reason. It's so self congratulatory and impulsive it almost upsets me.

We do sometimes lock threads that devolve into personal insults and mud slinging but if it's a debate that can go on for days, weeks or months until everyone's talked it out and starts going around in circles that we'd generally use that rationale. And definitely not because of some CONCLUSIVE OPINION posted by a mod which isn't their job.

Oh god, those bloody shock sites, thankfully i never saw lemon party.

On ONM once, me and another guy were joking about them via PM, and i told him about one he wasn't aware of at the time (i also told him not to go and see it because i had been tricked into doing so and it wasn't pleasant). Of course, the silly sod not only looked it up and saw it, but he then sent the link to a 10 year old kid he knew. :fp:

They do have warnings. I temporarily got one for sexism because I called the royal family banana splits.

I got this PM from the moderator who gave me the warning,

Please don't use gendered insults.

If you have a question about this feel free to contact me or any of the moderation team.

My reply,
I'm sorry but in what way is this gendered/sexist language?
It's not specific to males or females and is used as a description for both.

Their reply,
Maybe in your native tongue, but it is much more offensive in other cultures. Please be sensitive to this.

After that there was actual outcry in the thread from Brits and Australians about someone being given a warning for calling someone a banana split so another moderator had to remove the warning.

Should have told that mod that they need to be more sensitive to your culture, which includes calling people banana splits.

They’d have a field day with someone like actress Maya Sondhi from Line of Duty, in real life she’s banana spliting all over the place.

You should have told them that the term 'native' was racist, the people there seem to be so ridiculously pc they'd probably have believed it.

I had someone block me on Twitter with the rationale YOU ARE A SEXIST because I called a conservative PM a banana split who literally said that disabled people should be paid less just because they're disabled.

It's in the Colin and Oxford English dictionaries now that it can and does mean a "deplorable person". Yes, it may have been gendered by some people and for a time, but in history and in so many other occasions it's an acceptable strong word for telling someone they are monstrous disaster of a human being. Which I think in that case was fair.

I think people forget on platforms like Twitter and Facebook that if someone says stupid gooseberry fool that's deeply offensive (I am disabled btw) they are going to get called all sorts of things. Defending those people (from a European liberal no less) is just, weird. I think humanism and human rights trump social etiquette in that scenario, but no, context doesn't exist and let's view all coarse language in isolation from any underlying message. I think some people don't understand symbology at all. If they conflate a word with female genitalia (and I find this very sexist) and implying that is a gross and disgusting thing that is not my responsibility.

Some people try to conflate banana split with things like n****r because it can have been used to degrade women. Why should women be afraid of referring to their own organs anyway? Why should they have to represent distasteful things solely with male-gendered slurs? It's not like calling a woman a whore or a slut. The word has moved beyond that.

Fully expect saying things like this to come back to me. I guess we should stick to calling people "strawberry floats" or "gooseberry fools" instead or other vulgar things. Or just "very bad person". It doesn't sound remotely sincere. And it's difficult to express things enough over the Internet whic his probably why swearing is less and less taboo these days. I found it intersting the study also that people who swear are lot are both generally more creative and posses more empathy, not less.
