Back of the envelope math:

According to wikipedia
"The volume of flatus associated with each flatulence event again varies (5–375 mL)."

Let's give the benefit of the doubt and assume 1 L or 1000 mL. 1 L of air is approximately 1 grams.

Let's say it exits at a velocity of 10 m/s (which seems too high to me), but it won't make a difference.

added momentum by the fart is: m*v = 0.01 kg m/s

Assuming Bolt weights 100 kg, that means the far would propel him 0.1 mm/s

So theoretically: yes. In reality: no.

Today I learned that "Flatus" is the scientific term for fart gas.

Just got my first ban there, a month for downplaying transphobia concerns and gaslighting.

I'm pretty upset about it, as supporting trans people is an issue very close to my heart. I made a post saying that I didn't know if boycotting products was the right way to go about it, but instead there should be a focus on educating people as I believe a lot of transphobia comes from ignorance. I get they have a zero tolerance policy towards transphobia, but I've been sticking up for trans people and trying to fight people's ignorance to it for a long time, and to get banned from anyone for anything to do with transphobia really hurts.

I would appeal that ban honestly and explain your position.

That's a one way ticket to an even longer, or even permanent ban. Never question the authorities!

You're sincere about the issues facing trans people and expressed your views sensibly, and somebody took offence that your suggested method to educate people on the issues was not the solution they think is best. It seems this person incorrectly thinks that 'zero tolerance for hate' is the same as 'must agree with my view exactly.' It's a short-sighted approach to moderation on the website and in life because it pushes away everyone who doesn't comply with views and they will just end up with a ghetto where everyone is a nodding head. A better approach is to have people who have views on all subjects deemed ignorant, as long as they are not hateful. Through time and conversation they may come to develop a better understanding of others and their live experiences.

Grin. Like has been said above. Appeal the decision and explain your point like you did here. If they refuse to reduce or unban you certainly don't take it personally or interpret to be a comment on the validity of your views. It's simply an unskilled mod who handled things wrong. You know who you are better than anyone.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that the moderation and admin team over there are not pathetic dweebs on a power trip because they were bullied at school. It's their way (and only EXACTLY their way) or the highway. Any variation is not permitted, lest you get accused of backseat modding.

I think part of the problem there is that they can't empathise with or understand any member because they are too big.

I think the issue stems from the assumption that trans members should have to explain everything all the time. They shouldn't have to educate people all the time on why they have issues with certain things - just accept it's problematic and be supportive.

Throw in bad faith arguments and trolls and it's even worse expecting them to be tolerant and educational. There has to be a point at which you stop having to explain why xyz is transphobic, why it hurts trans members and why basic human rights and respect should apply to everyone. Putting the onus on the victims to explain everything isn't a particularly good idea.

That said, the mod team have absolutely shat the bed and have been rolling around in it for at least a week now. They're making a bad situation 10x worse by banning trans members for being angry at how Era handled it all.

I don't really think it's something that can be avoided, to be honest.

I get that it is probably extremely annoying for them, but it's probably best for them to be vocal about the issues they have with another's views and addressing it, as opposed to just shutting down or cancelling them away.

Welcome back! :D

I don't really post much on Era anymore outside of a few OTs. It seems to be controversy after controversy with the gooseberry fool mods there and the current one where they bent over backwards to side with some obviously-alt-right-to-anyone-apart-from-white-dudes Cyberpunk superfanboy over the trans community there that was calling out all his shitty dogwhistles is probably the worst yet. They really can't handle any situation with minorities well over there.
