It’s worth nothing that that wasn’t even going to happen in this game anyway, because it doesn’t happen until WAAAAAAY later in the story.
But, it’s absolutely brilliant that these psychotic fans are actually represented in the game by the ghosts that haunt the characters into following the same plot as before, and delicious that said fans can’t see that.
I think it was Austin Walker on his podcast said “this is not FF7, it’s not a ‘remake’ of that game. This is FF7: REMAKE, and you need to treat that subtitle like it was the subtitle of a Kingdom Hearts game or something”. Part of the story is that FF7 has been made before, and that’s what makes this particular remake so exciting. They’ll hit the broad strokes you remember, but if you’re someone that knows the plot inside out, you can still speculate with everyone where they might take it. There are no insufferable “book wankers”, anything could happen. Maybe Aerith still dies. Maybe someone else. Maybe multiple characters die. Maybe nobody does.
It is so blatantly obvious that this was a better direction than everyone had in their heads. And I’ll repeat that the people whinging about the changes being actually represented in the game by dark ghosts haunting the characters that they ultimately overcome and defeat, is just *chefs kiss*
