I liked the person who got a warning for backseat modding for pointing out someone else was backseat modding. You'd take that as a joke by the mod team anywhere else, but on Resetera you know it was genuine.

People in the UK Coronavirus thread getting angry at someone using the word nonce not knowing it also means idiot.

I have never heard nonce be used to describe anything but a paedophile.

To be fair I have heard it used as a general insult where no paedo implication was involved. It is pretty rare though

Yeah I agree it has become more of a general insult but the original context is why it's insulting.

I've only ever seen/heard someone use the word nonce as a synonym for anything other than paedophile when they are unaware of the word's actual meaning.

Still not as bad as when people refer to someone as being 'ignorant' if they don't respond to something. The irony of the accuser's own ignorance is never lost.

I have never heard nonce to mean idiot. I don't know anyone who does, unless it's like, I dunno when kids used to say 'gay' to mean stupid, so kids said nonce to mean idiot not knowing the actual meaning?

I would imagine it is almost entirely based on people not knowing the real meaning.

Remember when Ricky Gervais tried to argue that "mong" just meant "idiot"?

I've never heard it used to mean idiot personally but slang words mean different things in different areas. A quick Google search shows nonce meaning idiot is clearly a thing.
