Parasite is the standout this year.

Forgot about Godzilla, really enjoyed that.

I had assumed 1917 was released this year too.

I was sure it came out before Christmas.

First film I watched in a cinema in nearly 4 years as well, looking forward to my next cinema trip in 2024.

More films need to come to Netflix sooner.

Far superior audio and less image compression.

It depends. Some blu-ray masters are about the same as a 4K Netflix stream, for example.

The bitrate is somewhere between 10 and 40mbps I think using a very similar codec. Both Blu-ray and Netflix use the H.264 standard at the moment.

But yeah, I don't think any streams have proper multichannel or 96-192KHz audio support.

I was thinking of UHD, I tend to just call that bluray. But yes you're right, some Netflix stuff can look as good as a bluray no question.

I'm being a bit reductive. If there's a series or film I really enjoy, and know I'll want to watch again and again, I'll get the DVD, maybe the bluray if it's a more recent release where I don't mind paying extra for the prettier visuals.

But generally, for just watching films and shows I'm not familiar with for the first time, £15 for a single cinema ticket or single DVD just can't compete with £10/month for unlimited access to a massive library of stuff.
